"I Will Remember You"
- Sarah McLachlan
I will remember you
Will you remember me
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
Remember the good times that we had
Don't let them slip away from us when things gone bad
Clearly I just saw you smiling in the sun
Want to feel your warmth upon me
I want to be the one
I will remember you
Will you remember me
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
I'm so tired I can't sleep
Standing on the edge of something much too deep
It's funny how it feels so much, but I cannot say a word
We are screaming inside
Oh, we can't be heard
I will remember you
Will you remember me
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
So afraid to love you
More afraid to lose, but clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose
A deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had
Oh you gave me light
I will remember you
Will you remember me
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
I will remember you
Will you remember me
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
March 4, 1997 TO: UMM Community FROM: President Paul E. Nordstrom SUBJ: Campus Gathering in Memory of Jessica Kelley and Stuart Smith
Student group representatives from Kappa Mu Alpha (KMA), Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA), Sigma Chi Lambda (SCL), Greenland Point Center (GPC) and the general student body have organized a gathering in the memory of Jessica Kelley and Stuart Smith. Jessica and Stuart were the UMM students who lost their lives in a car accident on February 11, 1997. Jessica was a Junior in the Elementary Education program, and Stuart was a Junior in the Environmental Studies program. Both students loved the outdoors and worki ng with children and spent many hours in the programming at Greenland Point Center. In addition, they were involved in their respective sorority, ESA, and fraternity, KMA, as well as other UMM student organizations. UMM students, faculty and staff would like to have an opportunity to remember, share, and celebrate the many contributions that both Jessica and Stuart made during their undergraduate years at UMM.
The gathering is called "Celebration of Love & Life: Remembering Jess & Stu" and will be held on Saturday, March 15, 1997, at 4:00 p. m. in the Performing Arts Center. This gathering will focus on the many positive impacts, memories, and commitments that Jessica and Stuart displayed as members of the UMM community. A reception will be held immediately following the gathering at Portside in Kimball Hall.
The families of Jessica and Stuart will be in attendance. I hope that you will be able to attend this gathering and to help honor the two students who made such a significant difference in the many lives they touched.

All I know is that you could not have asked for two better co-workers or friends. She was an inspiration to all elementary education majors. Now that we have lost her, the children she will never teach have lost something as well. I will miss them both. Greenland Point will never be the same, and neither will any education class at UMM.
I met Stu for the first time when we participated in the St. John River trip in May 1995. At that time Stu was the only other student on campus I knew that smoked a pipe (tobacco). Anyway I remember one morning when I woke him up for breakfast by hitting him in the head with a full water bucket. That was after we dropped his tent on him. All just a little fun on the St. John. When the trip was done we both went to work at GPC. That's where Stu met Jess. Over the course of that summer Stu and I canoed Grand Lake Stream, camped on White Island of Big Lake, sailed the shores of Long Lake and took many a ride into Calais for our various bad habits. We awoke early in the morning to motor across the lake to fish, smoke Garcia Vega cigarillos, and to just get away from camp. We ended that summer by building the paddle and life jacket shack on the GPC waterfront. What I really remember about Stu is how good a friend he was that one summer at GPC.
"Stu and Jess were killed in an automobile accident yesterday afternoon. They were going to Calais for a doctors appointment and Jess had a hair appointment, but they never arrived. Their car hit a patch of ice somewhere in the area of Cooper hill and slid into an oncoming pickup truck. The people at the accident said they died instantly."
