Pergamon Museum

I went here for my midterm paper in my architecture class. I found the museum quite interesting and is a "must-do" for any visitor's list. This museum was designed by Alfred Messel and took 20 years to build (1910-1930). Here you'll find the Collection of Classical Antiquities, the Museum of Near Eastern Antiquities, and the Museum of Islamic Art. In the background, you see the side face of the museum, designed to look Greek, perhaps following after the Greek city for which it is named.

The bridge over to Museuminsel (Museum Island), where many major Berlin museums are located.
A statue of a young man and a view of the glass entry into the Pergamon Museum.
A bronze Egyptian.
The Pergamon Altar. This is a scaled down version of the ancient city of Pergamon's Great Altar. It is quite impressive as it is 3 stories tall.
Along the walls of the Greaet Altar is the frieze portraying gods battling giants. Unfortunately, some of the frieze has been destroyed through the years.
A beautifully carved casket.
One of the amazing ancient mosaics.
A larger mosaic.
A model of the ancient Greek city.
A mosaic wall along the Processional Way.
More of the Processional Way.
The great temple of ancient Babylon.
A model of ancient Babylon.
Ferocious lion gate keepers.
Some wall carvings.
These are creatures with the head of men, wings of a bird, and body of a lion. Also were gate keeper figures.
