ASSIGNMENT NO.5

Assignment #5 is to look at FORESTS by going to the United States Foreset Service Web Page
CONSERVATION ASSIGNMENT # 5 FORESTS
Go to NETSCAPE and go to OPEN FILE and type: http://www.fs.fed.us/
This will get you into the U.S. Forest Service Home Page.
Go to SEARCH and you are to search for One (1) topic dealing with forest management found in Chapter 7. Suggested topics could include things like:forest fires, national forest management, outdoor recreation, Georgia National Forests, big horn sheep, Rio Grande National Forest, elk, Douglas Fir, hiking, back backing, timber, clear cutting, fishing, pine bark beetles, white water rafting, national forest near your home, or whatever interests you.
1. Do three (3) things for your topic. (Since you only have one topic, do more than you would normally do)
(1) Title, http address, summary of site (abstract) (2) Relate to course and concepts discussed, i.e. multiple-use, etc. (3) Opinion?good, bad, why, would you recommend the site, etc.
Go back to USFS Home Page and click ?National Forest Web Sites? and go to ?National Grasslands? Click on "Grassland Story" where the prairie dog is holding the sign.
2. Summarize what you found.
Pick one of the National Grasslands that interests you.
3. Which one, why, and summarize what you found.
Go back to USFS and click on "National Forest Web Sites" Go to National Forests by Region. Go to Region 8 Southern Region and click. Click on one of the southern forests which you have an interest in.
4. Which one did you choose and why. Write a brief summary of what you found. Go back to USFS Home Page and click on "Enjoying Your National Forests" and click on Volunteer Programs. (Good's son worked for 5 summers in Colorado as a volunteer/regular employee).
5. Explain what you saw. Any interest in doing s summer volunteer program with the USFS? What program would interest you.?
Go back to Enjoying Your National Forests. Click on Just for Kids. (You may have kids one day)Click on Smoky Bear. Go to River Rage in Smoky Valley and click.
6. How could you use this to teach and what valuable lessons did you learn from it. Might want to look over other things "Just for Kids" What did you click on? Comment on how the USFS is education the very younger generation in resource management?
Go back to the USFS Home Page and click on ?Index Site? Go to Research. Click on a research site that has an interest to you.
7. What was site? Give title and summarize research topic and relate to class, especially the multiple-use concept. Go back to the USFS Home Page click Colors at Fall. Click on Georgia. Chattahoochee-Oconee NF. Click on Brasstown Bald Web Cam.
8. What time of the day was it and what did you see?
Go back to the USFS Home Page and click on anything that interests you.
9. What was it? Give title and summary, relate to class, and give opinion.
