In order to show you just what is on the web, we'll look at countries of Southern Asia in the encyclopedia. No, we won't be archaic by finding them in the library. Encyclopedias are now online and on compact discs.

Go to Netscape and type in http://www.eb.com This is Encyclopedia Brittanica Online.

Click on Sample Search.

Then, in the long, white blank, type in India.

Answer the following questions:

1. What is India's rank in the world according to population?

2. What is India's population according to 1992 estimates?

3. What countries border India and on what sides?

4. What is the capital of India?

5. How many square miles make up the country?

Click on Culture and then click on Festivals of Maharashtra.

6. What is Gudhi Paadva?

7. Describe the festival known as Raksha Bandhan/Narali Purnima.

8. Briefly explain the festival Ganapati Utsaav.
