The BooBooZoo

by Diana Moreton - tapster@mindspring.com

I woke to a lovely picture. I opened a leaflet which had been sitting on my desk collecting dust. Had I known the magic that would assault my soul, I would have broken the sacred seal long ago.

It was a picture of a fawn lying on a bed in Mama Suzie's house. My eyes followed the bedspread, and low and behold, there was a goat lying next to the fawn. There were several other sentient beings sleeping peacefully upon this bed within Mama Suzie's realm.  I stretched my superior human neck a tad more across the page (this really hurt my ego), and saw a grown man kissing a puppy.  I would assume this man is not a human dominionist. I bet he may even be a vegan!   Do I dare ask him?  Do I dare throw that dreaded GLOBAL ANSWER, which everyone is dying to share who knows, out to this messed up universe which is in a major state of collapse?  With thousands of years of impenetrable ‘might makes right' philosophy floating around like sewer s---, do I dare insult billions of superior humans who are gutted and immersed in religious, cultural, and traditional Westernized world view philosophies?

I looked below the photo of this kind, strong man, exhibiting compassion (rare species) in a world of pukey indifference and fabricated rationalizations induced by selfishness. I saw Emerita embracing a bebungen tiny fawn with a receiving blanket wrapped around his vulnerable head.

I turned the brochure over ever so gently to see Sylvan again, the human compassionist (opposite of dominionist), kissing and embracing the First Injured Baby Fawn Of Spring (FIBFOS).  Her name is Oso. She was cut from her mother's womb by a cruel human dominionist hunter, who was TAUGHT to hunt.  Rumor has it amongst all the sentient species on this tropical island paradise, he no longer continues this cruel behavior, after he RE-LEARNED the pain and suffering he inflicted on other sentient beings that share this island. This has been known to happen in the universe, when a good life force is introduced to a moribund, decaying force.  Oso thinks Sylvan and Mama Suzie may have spread some good karma into this person's soul, to help eliminate all the saturated fat and cholesterol that has overcome him from birth, by old world beliefs which don't work.

Oso shouts that because what this ignorant person did was so traumatic for her, she went blind. She says to this day, no particular dominionist group has ever come forward to claim responsibility for her mother's attack in this region of Hawaii. She excuses her eyes.  They are frozen in a perpetual state of terror from the misanthropic metal bullet she felt vibrate near her, when the hunter's caliber reached her mother's heart; while still inside a warm and tender womb. As tears welled up in her pathetic, sensitive eyes, she expressed outrage and hatred by stating she never even got a chance to kiss her mother.  She hates ALL hunters because of this EXPERIENCE.  I empathized with her and told her I FELT the same way. She said she FELT she had this ABSOLUTE RIGHT, being a vulnerable, sentient being within her mother's Godly womb.

Reverend Kauluwehi Maxwell offered up a Hawaiian chant for a native Hawaiian short-eared owl.  Being licensed wildlife rehabilitators, this beautiful pueo, who once had a shattered wing, will soar again someday over this majestic isle.

Pains shot throughout my psyche when I read that Mama Suzie, this refuge's life blood, has physically debilitating lupus.  Poor Mama Suzie spent time in the hospital and we dearly miss her when she is away.  We love her and Sylvan so much for the compassion they have so generously extended to us misfits.  They rescued us and we call out across the peaceful ocean to all compassionate hearts on the mainland, to support The East Maui Animal Refuge, 25 Malu ‘Aina, Haiku, HI 96708 Visit our website.  Won't you? The Victims of Ignorance

This is a message to acknowledge the victims of ignorance, the nonhuman animals.  This is for the kittens who were drowned in alcohol, future specimens for Biology students.  This is for the mother hamster who was thrown into a trash can because she devoured her young.  This is for the puppy who was left in the car during August just a bit too long.  This is for the fledgling who was beaten to death by a group of teenagers.  This is for the 3 lambs, 11 cows, 45 turkeys, 1,097 chickens, and 1 calf that each meat-eating American will consume in an average lifetime.  This is for the 240 million male chicks who are killed annually.  This is for the dog who was stolen for laboratory experimentation.  This is for the 6.5 million dolphins who have been killed by tuna fishermen.  This is for the rabbit who was force fed your favorite shampoo. This is for the frightened infant monkey who's "mother" was a cloth "monkey" scheduled to shock him on command.  This is for the ducklings who were electrically shocked to prove that electrical shocks can immobilize.  This is for the animals.  The exploited nonhuman animals.  There are people out there who care.  There are people out there working to save you.  You haven't been forgotten.

Heart Disease Arrested by Plant-Based Diet

VegSource is proud to announce the opening of a website for Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. MD, Preventive Cardiology Consultant at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Since 1985, Dr. Esselstyn has conducted the longest running study which proves that heart disease can be arrested or reversed by a low fat, plant-based diet.  100% of patients in his study who were compliant with the diet experienced arrest of their heart disease, and 73% of study participants experienced regression of the disease.

The No-Kill Dilemma

written by MJ Hall

director of the New England Haven for Animals

Recently, several of the municipal pounds in the Greater Boston area have gone to "no-kill" status. This is wonderful news but I cannot help but greet it with mixed feelings. The Haven is a no-kill organization and I wish more groups and pounds would and could be no-kill, too.

However, there is a pet overpopulation crisis in this area. You can see it every spring as hundreds of "free kittens" appear on bulletin boards and in classified ads.  We decry shelters and pounds for euthanizing animals, and yet so many of us have animals who are not spayed or neutered. One man once told me he did not neuter his cat because he rarely let him out, and it is not like he would come home pregnant. No, but someone else's cat will. While some animals are not altered because of owner ignorance, many others remain intact because of the often high veterinary costs of spaying and neutering.

The reality is that no-kill pounds and shelters have limited capacities. When a no-kill facility is full, it is full. That means that it cannot accept any more animals, and people must then take their pets to a "kill" shelter. Desperate owners who have tried everywhere, and do not want to send their pet to a "kill" shelter where he might not make it, are forced to do so. This is an awful situation for all involved.

I firmly believe that when any group elects to be a no-kill facility, that group must also make every reasonable attempt to curb the pet population in its demographic. Some of the recent no-kill towns are host to some of the most expensive veterinarians around. While we can say that a responsible pet owner must know and understand the costs of pet ownership, the reality is that there are pet owners who cannot spend a $100 or more to get their cat neutered or spayed. Other people are caring for strays and feral colonies, and the cost of altering so many animals can be prohibitive.

The Haven does not adopt out any unaltered cats or dogs. That is the rule. No vouchers or deposit system. Every animal is altered before eligible for adoption, including kittens as early as 8-10 weeks. I would call upon all no-kill pounds and shelters to do the same. Ask your vets to learn early spay/neuter procedures.  Don't adopt out any animals that are not altered. There can never be enough homes when there are so many animals.

It is wonderful to go home at night knowing that The Haven is a no-kill facility.  But so long as there are so many homeless and unwanted animals out there, it will never be enough. We must work to end the population crisis. Only then will we truly achieve a home for every animals.

NEAVS Aids Vet Students Opposing Terminal Labs

BOSTON, MA - Responding to requests for help from veterinary students across the country, the New England Anti-Vivisection Society (NEAVS) is making free information packets available on how to oppose the killing of live animals for physiology and surgical training. Currently, all of the 27 veterinary schools in America kill healthy dogs, cats, or other animals for "educational" purposes. In Britain, this practice has been outlawed.

The NEAVS packet contains sample letters to the editor, lists of available computer models (including pig, cat, frog and soon-to-be-available dog and horse), practice mannequins, and journal articles and student quotations validating the superiority of alternative surgical training. In addition, NEAVS is offering detailed instructions on how vet students can work with veterinarians and no-kill shelters to establish alternative surgical training experiences such as spay/neuter surgeries.

"Since its founding in 1895, NEAVS has had a strong commitment to educating future generations of veterinarians, physicians, researchers and scientists," said NEAVS' President Theodora Capaldo, EdD, a psychologist.  "In working to end vivisection, it is imperative that students be offered a new way of thinking and doing things. We must work to change the mindset -- established early in one's professional training -- that animals are disposable commodities."

Capaldo added, "Students, especially those in professions engaged in vivisection, are the single most important population that the anti-vivisection movement must educate and support. The importance of organizations such as Association of Veterinarians for Animal Rights cannot be overemphasized in achieving these changes. With the impressive body of knowledge now available proving that alternatives are educationally and scientifically superior to animal models, our ethical argument is solidly based on scientific fact. The lessons of compassion need never be sacrificed to promote learning."

Said Ann Stauble, NEAVS' Vet Ed Program Coordinator and Research Specialist, "The argument that animals killed for surgical training would be euthanized anyway is a poor one. The biggest killer of dogs and cats in this country is not a disease -- it's euthanasia due to over-population.  Veterinarians and students should be fighting this killer together, not using it as an excuse to justify unnecessary cruelties and teach our future vets that animals are disposable."

Stauble noted, "In the NEAVS Vet Ed Program most of our students perform early-age sterilizations. In addition to learning surgical skills in a humane way, they're saving hundreds of animal lives. Research shows that vet students can learn both physiology and surgery through humane teaching just s well as students who participate in terminal labs."

NEAVS has been working not only to end practices such as terminal dog lab but, as importantly, to help shape a humane ethic in the veterinarians of the future. This latest groundswell of student sentiment against the abusive use of animals in veterinary education is a clear call to veterinary schools across the country to stop the killing, according to NEAVS.

Love for All Creatures:

Frequently Asked Questions

About the Bible and Animal Rights

by nphelps@fund.org

According to Genesis 2:18-19 God created nonhuman animals to be companions for human beings.  At first glance, these verses appear to describe a process of trial and error, but a god who works by trial and error is not really consistent with the Judeo-Christian tradition. More likely, Genesis is describing the creation of a network of interlocking relationships, a web of life, in which every participant has a unique and valuable role to play. In the case of some animals, this may mean an individual relationship with human beings in which both the human and the nonhuman participant find love, joy, and comfort. In the case of others, it may mean playing a role in the global ecosystem that sustains the quality of life for all beings.  This kind of interdependence is very difference from the notion that sentient beings are resources to be exploited for the benefit of one species only.

The idea that we are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) places upon us an obligation to reflect the love and compassion of God in all aspects of our lives. If our lives are a reflection of God's love, we will not bring terror, agony, and premature death upon defenseless creatures whom God has created with the ability to experience these feelings.

Dominion (See Genesis 1:28), in Hebrew as in English, simply means "authority."  Parents have authority over their children, and governments have authority over their citizens, but we expect parents to exercise their authority for the benefit of their children, and governments for the benefit of their citizens, and we judge them harshly when they do not.  There is no reason why we should judge humanity's exercise of dominion over nonhuman animals by any different standard.

The idea that animals are resources to whom we owe no direct moral duties did not originate in either Judaism or Christianity. It is an ancient Greek idea most baldly stated by Aristotle, who believed that there is a natural hierarchy of beings based on intelligence (reason, rationality), and that beings lower in the hierarchy exist to serve those who are higher.  At the top, he placed Greek men, and below them he ranged non-Greeks, women, slaves, and animals.  His ideas were picked up by Saint Paul, who grew up in a Greek city (Tarsus in Asia Minor, modern Turkey), and was as comfortable in the Greek language and culture as he was in the Jewish. Thus, in several passages, such as I Corinthians 9:9, Paul makes it clear that he has no ethical problem with meat eating, and that he believes we have no ethical duties to animals.

Paul's view, however, cannot be traced to Jesus, whom the Bible never quotes as saying anything even vaguely similar, and never describes as eating meat (except for fish on one occasion after the resurrection). In fact, on two occasions, Jesus is quoted as condemning animal sacrifice in very harsh terms. (Matthew 9:13; 12:7)

The Hunters' Weiner Bawl

by Ljbeane1@aol.com

Hey I am inviting you all to a big party.

The  Hunter`s  Weiner bawl.

A big celebration to show off their new manhood.

Walls covered with newly decapitated heads.

"Trophies" of their shame.

Remnants of their gutless efforts to be men.

Now to start things off right,

We need music.

Today who else but the ????????

" BUCKSHOTS"

Hit it fellas!!!

Come on everyone lets shake them some ass.

Right foot, left foot.

"Shake your bounty-shake, shake, shake!

Shake your bounty-shake, shake, shake!"

And what is music without the song............keep moving it everyone!!!

HEY NOW , HEY HOW?

CAN THEY BE SO MEAN?

CAUSE THEY HAVE NO HEARTS

IT MAKES THEIR EGOS KEEN.

HEY NOW, HEY HOW?

IT`S HEAD TROPHIES TIME?

THESE MEN CAN SHOOT A GUN

AND IT`S KILLING CRIME.

HEY NOW, HEY HOW?

DO YOU MOUNT THE HEAD?

AND THE EYES ARE GLASS

BUT THEY STILL LOOK DEAD.

HEY NOW, HEY HOW?

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE.

IT IS TIME TO TALK

AND I`M GOING TO GO THERE!

Hey now

Hey how............

Hey that was great, you really worked it out.

Sit down. Take a rest.

I have been doing some perplexing reflecting.

In my spare ticky -tock time.

Been thinkin about you huntin men.

Especially you men of the "decapitated animal head fame."

Yeah you over there, under the moose head.

Got some questions for ya all.

Wanna go that "don`t ever talk about that zone."

Like what is with those glass eyes in those heads you got hangin all around?

Where`s their real eyes?

Where`s their eyes?

Gotta an answer big man with a gun???

Can`t leave the real eyes there can you?

Letting them ooze, crack ,rot and then dry.

They would look dead, the head would be morbid.

Even you would have known you had killed.

The horror and pain you created would stare back at you.

Reflecting your own fetid soul.

THE EYES MUST BE PLUCKED OUT!!

What dark hole do you crawl into?

Do you have a special eye removal place?

A room where you go elbow deep in blood and brains,

where you trade sticky eyes for glass eyes?

Eyes that never saw their mother, never watched a sunset,

Nor saw their loved ones.

Hard rock eyes that that know not of life nor of you,

But glisten outward in silly happy glances of endearment.

Eyes that reflect back your lies.

"I didn`t die, I didn`t suffer, I didn`t care that you killed me."

Yeah the trigger happy finger of your wasted hands

Doesn't want the blood stains.

So you pretend, you lie, you take away their death.

Your shameful acts replace their dignity.

You can`t leave the sticky accusing traces of your massacre.

The peaceful head must gleam from the wall.

Less all know the extent of your thoughtless vain acts.

So now you preen, enjoying your own invisible valor.

And there you stand, under the moose.

Smug, the bearer of death In the first-degree.

But while you laugh, can`t you feel them??

The eyes?

THE EYES staring at you.

Watching you.

Waiting....waiting....waiting for you.

Watching and waiting--the "eye bawls."

What have you done???????

Picnics about to start--anyone "seen" a weiner???
