What would you be doing if you weren’t a footballer?
I’m not sure I’d be good enough but I’d love to have been a golfer. I’ve got a handicap of 8, but I didn’t play too well on our recent trip to Bournemouth because I was a bit tired. It was a good laugh though.
What was the first match you went to watch?
I can’t remember the exact game but it would have been to watch Tottenham at White Hart Lane when I was about 7.
Would you dive to win a penalty in a crucial game?
Well I wouldn’t dive but if someone gave me a gentle push I’d go over. Professionalism it’s called! I’d be professional about it!
When was the first time you got paid for playing football?
For Spurs’ youth team, but I can’t remember the opponents. That was a pretty good team though Sol Campbell, Nick Barmby, Lee Hodges who’s here now also Neil Young and Steve Robinson who are now at Bournemouth.
Who did you support as a boy, and who was your hero?
I supported Spurs because I trained with them from the age of 10. Glenn Hoddle was definitely my hero, a fantastic player.
Who is the best player you have played with and against?
Klinsmann is the best I’ve played with when I was at Spurs. As well as being a world-class finisher he had excellent movement of the ball. And he was a lovely bloke as well. My hardest opponent was the Italian, Mancini, when Spurs played against Sampdoria in a pre-season friendly. They beat us 3-0 and he hardly broke into a sweat!
What do you eat before a match?
Poached egg and beans on toast.
Do you have any pre-match rituals?
No, I’m not superstitious. Some players are, though, like Robert Fleck who wears his socks inside out and always has to take his shorts and pants off in the dressing room at half-time for some reason!
What’s the best stadium you’ve played at?
Probably Wembley when I played for England Schoolboys.
What’s the best goal you’ve ever scored?
One at Man United for Spurs a few years ago. The ball got pulled back to me from the bye-line and I just smashed it into the corner past Peter Schmeichel which was quite nice!
What has been the highlight and lowlight of your career?
The lowlight was being relegated last season, and the highlight was my full Spurs debut when I scored the winner against Everton in the last minute. It was live on Sky too.
Do you want to stay in football after retiring?
Yes, definitely. I want to be a manager. Some people say it would be too stressful and too much pressure, but I want that.
I do not claim this is exclusive I found it on the net.
