PISGAH NATIONAL FOREST

A spring running across the trail leading to John's Rock. My friend Becca at a stream crossing the trail. Look Becca!! You've gone WWW!!

The view from John's Rock, overlooking Pisgah National Forest (Looking Glass Rock is in the distance). "John's Rock" got it's name from a man (John) who accidentally fell from this cliff on his horse back in the 1800's. Knowing this story made my friend and I a little more cautious, esp. since the rocks were wet and slippery from rain. Me, falling down the slope of John's rock.. NOT!

The trail leading to Looking Glass Rock takes around 2 1/2 to ascend. There is a warning sign at the bottom, urging hikers to take at least 20 oz of water for each person. My friend and I each had about 30 oz of water, but it was a very hot day, and we discovered what we brought was not enough. Long, steep climb, on a hot day, with insufficient amounts of water, and another half hour to go = attitude!
We were pretty dehydrated by the time we made it down to the bottom of the mountain. I recommend taking at least 40oz of water when you go, esp. if it is a hot day.

The view from Looking Glass Mountain. My all-time favorite photo of Gabe. (I don't care if your arms ARE crossed, it is still a darned cool photo!
