THE LONG ISLAND MARITIME MUSEUM at West Sayville is featuring an extensive display of vintage diving gear assembled by Bob Rusnak with the cooperation of the HDS-USA and NEDEG. On August 25-26, 2001, we put on diving demos at the Seafood Festival off the dock on the museum grounds. We used Jerry Takacs' 32-foot Regal cruiser "Gypsy Jenni" (TOP LEFT) as a base of operations. Jerry dived Jay Rogers' 1943 Schrader MkV rig (RIGHT and BELOW). That's Dolores Rogers (RIGHT) supervising. Because of the shallow and muddy bottom, this year we began to use a hose to wash off the divers as they exited the water. Don Rusnak was a muddy mess as he climbed the ladder and was hosed off (BELOW) by his surfing buddy Eric, who also dived Don's SuperLite 17 (TOP RIGHT). Dolores Rogers was giving "good hose" to her husband (BOTTOM) in Jim Boyd's SuperLite/Amron rig. |
