1998 Bridge to Bridge For the first time in the history of the Hawkesbury River Bridge to Bridge a boat towing Ladies from the Open Womens class has won the Bridge to Bridge. Following the tradged of Saturday that marred the Top 10 shoot out, where a middle aged man drowned when his boat collapsed during a freak accident in warm-up at Dargle, near Wisemans Ferry, this years Bridge looked as though it would be a disapointment, but this was not to be. His death has been a shock to the water Skiing community of the Hawkesbury river. We all feel for his family and friends. No one was to know that the biggest suprise in Bridge history was about to unfold. The Womens class were first off in the morning and "Wild Trukey" towing Joanne Hamilton and a second lady skier (unknown at this stage) ran the 135km course in just under 45min, about 5min off the record set by "Mr. Walker" in 1996. The conditions were ideal for the Women, but as the classes went through the conditions deteriorated and by the time super class went through the conditions were so bad they couldn't match the leading time. Glenn Geary a skier in the Under 5.2L class said "in my 18 consecutive bridges it was the roughest yet" ....... "I had rough water at 10am, so I sympathise with the guys in super class". This is not to take anything away from the Women, they did a great job, but the men were hard done by due to the conditions and deserved a fair go in even conditions. Outright positions 1st Wild Turkey (Open Women) - Towing Joanne Hamilton and Tracy Graziano (NSW) 2nd 2 Extreme (Super Class) - Towing Ian Dipple who has a dead arm and has to use a special harness, congratulations Ian. Second skier is unknown. (NSW) 3rd Double Trouble (6 Litre) - Skiers Unknown (QLD) Other Classes Womens
