.Just across Narciso Lopez Street is the Meson de Ia Flota, or Palacio del Conde de Santovenia. Now this impressive ancient building, which was once the abode of the military judge and lawyer Doctor Francisco Martinez de Campo, is a tavern and colonial- style restaurant. Bedecked in flags, including the old Union flag, ancient artefacts, bales, casks, chests and barrels, this early meeting house for traders dating back to the 18th century, recently echoed to the sounds of restoration as the UNESCO scheme lovingly repaired the grand palace. Its name comes from the title of Doctor de Campo’s brother, Nicolas, conferred with the Countdom of Santovenia in 1834. During the 19th century the building had doubled as the Hotel Santa Isabel and the restaurant of the commercial market of Havana. The hotel is now reconstructed.
