The Shipwreck On a very storm ridden night the forces of wind and waves proved to be to great for the crew of the ill fated ship. After the order to abandon ship was given, the crew boarded rescue vessels with none of their personel belongings. They could only watch the huge wave splash that defined the disappearing bow in the dark dangerous night. The ship Kirk Pride now made its final voyage on January 9, 1977 at 21:00 hrs.
The Story of the Kirk Pride!
Witness this Incredible Event!
It was about ten years later that sub pilot, biologist Stewart Mailer made a remarkable discovery at the depth of 800 feet. A ship! It was still in tack and sitting right side up. Amazing! The ship was the Kirk Pride a 177 foot cargo freighter lying peacefully in her now new home. Chaos was evident in all areas of the ship. Fire hoses hung over railings, a car lay on its head lights in the aft cargo hold, ships lines lay tangled. and the ships telegraph showed evidence of the last command given by the Captain." All stop"the handle revealed and the last stressful response from the crew in the engine room, "abandon ship".
The Kirk Pride is now an artificial reef for deep water creatures. Many are rare corals and small sponges. Some of the local spices of fish have also taken up residence, like the Spanish Flag fish and the Amphious fish. The Amphious is a queer looking creature that has no skin pigment. You can see the areas of blood profusion to the heart and brain.
But most remarkable are the similarities in deterioration between the Kirk Pride and the Titanic. Not just the cold and dark enviorment but rusticles also make these shipwrecks alike. Bacteria that has invaded the metal and remove the iron has caused an eerie dripping appearance to the ship."Like stalagtites in a cave" is what many observers have described the rusticles as.
There has been strange sightings in the midship area of the Kirk Pride. A cylindrical green glow about three feet long seemed to undulate up the side of the ship on two seperate occasions. After turning on the lights it seemed not to have any matter, in other words it vanished! My passengers at the time concluded that it was something from the spirit world! I believed that it was a rare bioluminescent shark! Below the ship at a depth of 900 feet lay the pants and jacket of a seaman. They lay as if they were being worn!
