Follow the Leader is about a group of surfers (Tom and Joe Curren, Bryan Jennings, Sean Hayes...) who surf on the island of Olvidados in the North Atlantic. There are also other miscellaneous segments in the video, with other surfers at other locations
Pros:The surfing is great. The music is nicely done, fitting the mood of each segment quite well. The Olvidados section is a lot of fun to watch, with huge waves breaking with very different sections and take-off points. The opening song rules, as does the ska one, during the Trestles footage.
My favorite part of the video is the 1998 Trestles contest. It shows late-morning to mid-afternoon Lowers in different moods: small and clean in the morning and big and a bit messy in the afternoon. Rob Machado wins it, and you can see why.
One particular wave of the video stands out for me. I'm pretty sure it's Peter Mel's only wave. He takes off on a wave, Backdoor, I believe, and gets shacked for what I counted to be seven seconds. Made me go "Whooo!"
Cons:The opening quote is horrible, I mean it really bummed me out. The first part isn't so bad, but... here it is: "Leadership is defined by the depth of one's character... ...Being a great surfer is only half the battle" To whomever wrote the quote and/or decided to put it in the video: Please die.
Soul_Surfer awards Follow the Leader a 9 minus 1.0 for the quote = 8
