Press Release
July 15, 1999, Atherton, California - Norm DeWitt will be thrilling crowds at the 1999 Kingman Air and Auto Show on October 2-3, 1999. Norm’s air show performances have the crowd’s attention riveted on his Edge 540 as it dives into show center, with smoke on, at over 275 miles per hour. He flies with safety, skill, and surgical precision learned in years of aerobatic competition.
Norm’s routine features snap rolls, lomcevaks, centrifuges, avalanches, and multiple tumbles. His routine is a high-energy, spine crushing, fast-paced show that only an Edge 540 can fly. The Edge possesses one of the highest roll rates of any airplane flying today, at 420 degrees per second, and Norm demonstrates this with maximum control deflection on every roll, in every direction. Multiple vertical rolls are no problem in this airplane.
Norm’s fire-engine red monoplane, known as the Edge 540, is built by Zivko Aeronautics in Guthrie, Oklahoma. It is powered by a high-performance 387-hp Lycoming engine modified by LyCon in Visalia, California. The Edge is constructed of high-tech composite materials and is capable of handling +/- 23 G’s. Norm routinely flies the Edge at +/- 11 G’s in his air show. The Edge is highly maneuverable and flies around corners with incredible agility.
Norm’s flying experience spans more than 35 years. He has flown gliders, ultralights, and seaplanes at one end of a spectrum, and the F-15 and F-16, as a civilian, at the other end. Norm is the 1998 Northern California Aerobatic Champion in the Advanced category, flies four to six contests each season, and now competes at the Unlimited level.
Norm and his Edge will be entertaining air show audiences throughout California this year. Be sure to plan on attending the Kingman Air and Auto Show, and be prepared to be amazed by Norm and his "Extreme Machine." Norm may be reached at (650) 321-8499 or email at eaglell@aol.com.
