Some people can be so ignorant. Recently, Cuba sent a team of their all-stars to play baseball with the Baltimore Orioles, but many people gathered to protest the game because they don't think we should befriend such a "brutal" country. Andy Fernandez, a banker (note the upper-class job dependent on capitalism) from New York said, "We're trying to tell the government in Kosovo that we want human rights, but ninety miles from (Miami) we allow repression to continue." Apparently this guy knows nothing about any U.S. foreign relations over the past fifty years. The Korean and Vietnam wars are almost identical accounts of the U.S. failing to contain communism, mainly based upon lack of popular support because of oppressive U.S.-supported dictatorships. In fact, in Vietnam, the Vietcong (communists) distributed five times more land to peasants that did the U.S. supported Saigon government. This is why U.S. troops massacred innocent civilians and planes dropped poison to kill all life (including trees) over areas the size of Massachusetts. The Saigon government was so oppressive that any poor person was likely to be a supporter of the communists. The U.S. has also supported many more oppressive dictatorships throughout the world, many of which kill nearly everyone who shows the slightest hint of being left-wing. Anyway, back to the point of discussion: Cuba. The people themselves have shown that they prefer communist rule to a U.S. dictatorship. In 1961, two years after the communist revolution, JFK sent 2,000 ex-Cubans who actually liked U.S. rule into Cuba to take it back. Obviously, 2,000 wasn't enough, so he expected Cubans to flock over to U.S. lines to help out, but barely anyone did. It was a total failure, and once again due to lack of popular support. Sure, we shouldn't be interfering in Kosovo, but at least our intentions are relatively good. We should accept Cuba as it is however. We should lift the trade embargo to help their country recover faster from being raped by us and just loosen up concerning them, because if we did, it's pretty likely that Fidel will get less paranoid and do the same, giving his people freedom. U.S. interference is just gonna make things worse, so I say play ball and have peace.
