September brings with it the start of the new swim season. The team is adding new swimmers after a successful Pre-Comp session, and we go through our fall "growing time".
Please note that the annual Welcome Back Pot Luck Dinner is scheduled for Friday, September 18th. There will be no practice that day, as we will all come together at 6:00PM for our annual dinner at the Doelger Cafe (111 Lake Merced Blvd.). We would like to see a 100% turnout! New families need to see and meet old families. So don't be selfish folks - share your family with others, and help them get a good start, just like you did when joining the team.
The telephone committee will be calling you to arrange for a dish to bring. We hope to see you all there.
The pool will re-open on August 31st. Due to the growing size of our team, there will be a slight change in the practice times. Please read The Coaches' Corner to get more news, and swimmers, see your coaches for your swimming time if you're not sure.
The Parent Board would like to remind you of a few important things to remember regarding the DCD Team:
1) As of September 1st, monthly dues will NOT be accepted at the pool. You MUST mail your dues to Treasurer Norma Cosiac. If you need a coupon book, let her know; and remember - dues are payable BEFORE the 10th of each month to avoid a late fee.
2) Remember, if you EVER plan to leave the team, take time off, or just need a leave of absence, YOU MUST give us written notice. We have had some families leave the team, and just not tell us. If that is the case, late fees and dues continue to accrue and be charged. If you do not let us know you are leaving, you will have to pay ALL back dues, or, the rejoining fee, because you did not advise us. So communication is a MUST!
It "sneaks" up on us every year, but it will not be long until our DCD Thanksgiving Meet is upon us! RESERVE THESE DATES: November 21-22, 1998. The DCD Meet is a "MUST- SERVE" event for all DCD Parents.
We need EVERY family to participate, so keep those dates open. Also, you may want to start finding advertisers for our Meet Program, or food/candy/drink donators as well. The earlier we get going on it, the better it will be!
Please note that the pool will be CLOSED on Monday, September 7th (Labor Day), and on September 18th (Our Welcome Back Dinner). Check your swimguide for upcoming Swim Meets... in September we have the Monterey and Vallejo Meets.
If you need swim supplies, call Perlita Soriano for information. I need to correct an error in last month's newsletter on the price of team caps: the correct price $3.25 each.

August capped a great summer for our team. At the Far Western Championships over 2000 swimmers from the western United States, Canada, and Mexico watched Kevin Dolar place 4th in the 10/U 50 and 100 meter breaststroke; Nicky Leung place 5th in the 10/U 200 meter I.M., 6th in the 50 and 100 meter backstroke, and 7th in the 100 meter free; Justin Vergara place 37th in the 200 meter breaststroke. Our team placed 51st out of 200+ teams that have a 50 meter pool to train in. Great job!
At the MPM 'B' Meet, Kevin Apolinario posted his 1st 'A' time in the 8/U 50 back, as did Alyssa Stember in the girl's 50 breast, and Genevieve Williams recorded her 1st 11/12 'A' time in the 50 backstroke. Adding to their 'A' total were: Ruth Dimagmaliw(100 I.M., 50 fly), Eliot Quon (100 I.M., 50 free), Janessa Rozal (200 and 100 I.M., 50 fly, 50 back), Jonathan Stember (50 fly, 50 back) and A.J. Vergara (200 I.M.).
Swimming their 1st meet for D.C.D. were: Jessica De Castro, Jamielyn Romero, and Jevelyn Viernes. Our 13-up relay of Keoni Williams, A.J. Vergara, Marco Morales and Stanley Chen took 1st place.
At the Sunnyvale Pentathalon Ashley Ann Feria in 6/U and Nicky Leung in 10/U won gold medal for their age group.
At the Benicia Long Course Meet last weekend Stanley Chen posted 2 new 13/14 'A' times, Jason Galvey added a 10/U 'A', Nicky Leung won 9 out of 9 events in PRT time and Chris Nguyen posted 3 new 11/12 'A' times.
Sports Night was a huge success as over 150 people attended and all the kids and parents who wanted to, had a chance to play some basketball. Next year we plan to add indoor soccer and volleyball to the venue. A big thank you to Mrs. Banares and the parents who made the arrangements and participated.
Out Welcome Back Dinner will be 6:00 p.m. Sept.18th at Doelger Center Cafe in Westlake. All parents and swimmers should be there to meet each other and make plans for the year.
