He was born in Washburn, Aug. 4. 1924, the son of Carl and Eulalia (Gould) Whitten.
Whitten was a veteran of 20 years service with the U. S. Army and since his discharge in 1961, had lived in Hannahan and at the time of his death was a police photographer.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Eulalia (Whitten) Greenlaw of Washburn: his widow, Mrs. Dorothy (Crew) Whitten a daughter, Patricia, and two sons. Larrv and Sheldon Jr., all of Hannahan. S.C.: four brothers, Earl of Watertown, Conn., Carl of Bridgewater, Conn., Dana of Leominster, Mass., and Dale of Bethel, Conn.; four sisters, Mrs. Basil (Thetis) Churchill of Ludlpw. Mrs. Jusdon (Freda) Dewitt of New Limerick. Mrs. Osborne (Audrey) Crosby of East Millinocket, Mrs. Owen (Louisa) Smith of Mapleton: a granddaughter, several nieces and nephews.
Full military services will be held in Summerville, S. C., Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Burial will be in South Carolina.
