Earl Jestings, of Presque Isle, received word from the War Department, this week, that his son, Pfc Albert Jestings was killed in action on Okinawa, April 28th [1945]. Pfc. Jestings entered the Army about five years ago and had served overseas two yoars before being wounded in action on Saipan, June 24th, 1944. He was home on furlough last winter before going overseas again.
Pfc. Jestings was born in East Machias, Dec. 31,1918, and was educated in the schools of Presque Isle and Washburn, graduating from Washburn high school in 1938.
He was employed farming with his father and he entered the service in March, 1941. He received training at Camp Wheeler, Ga., and Camp Blanding, Fla, He went overseas Jan. 1942 and served two years before being wounded in action on Saipan.
He was home on furlough for 30 days in Dec. 1944, after serving 34 months overseas, and returned in Jan. 1945.
He is survived by his father, Earl Jestings, his stepmother, Mrs. Earl Jestings, and two sisters, Miss Irma Jestings of Portland, Me., and Mrs. Donald Britton of Presgue Isle.
