Success Stories
In the beginning....
In October, I got lonely. And so I got a cat. I got her from the SPCA, of course, being a humane and compassionate person and also not having a couple hundred dollars to drop on a purebred. Picking just one cat from the dozens of desperate faces at the SPCA wasn't easy. I almost got one of the siamese. But in the end, I got Erzulie. She was a cute little thing, just over being a kitten, with medium-length hair and a white splotch under her chin and a really bad attitude about getting into the cat carrier.
In late January, Zulie started showing signs of lonliness in turn. After all, I was out all day. What could she do but chew up the mouse cord, shred the shower curtain, and pull all my clothes off their hangers to express her displeasure? I decided that it would be cheaper to get another cat than deal with Zulie's angst.
My search for the cat who would become known as Baxter upset me. I went to the SPCA again, and found no cats who struck me as suitable playmates for my little girl. There were only six cats there that day, in fact. I thought it kind of odd that half of them were black.
I had heard before that black cats had a harder time getting adopted at animal shelters, but seeing not one but two cats there that day who looked exactly like Zulie would when she got a little older made that statistic really hit home. I decided to try to help. And thus this webpage was born.
If you have adopted a cat that you found through Goth Cat Rescue, feel free to send me your story. Pictures are also welcome.
