A Note on Goth Cats and Halloween
As those of you who had the misfortune to live in the rural United States in the early eighties may remember,
there was a time when fear of Satanism was so strong in our land that actual mass panics and small-scale riots broke out
at times. During that era, many animal shelters adopted policies to prevent black cats from being adopted on or just before
Halloween for fear they would be used as sacrifices. Many of these policies are still in place, and even where they are not,
certain shelters may be leery of you if you show up around Oct. 31st in full goth costume. Use your own judgement here. If you absolutely
must have a new cat, and it's Halloween, you're likely to do better if you dress conservatively. If, on the other hand, dressing down feels
like a moral compromise to you, trying waiting.
