This
is Titus' cage!
It
is not a bird-cage, although it might look like one.
Its
size is 70x30x50 cm. It used to have a second level (unfortunately it
was a wire level) and an additional platform, as you can see below,
but it was absolutely impossible to reach all places in the cage through
the small cutouts in the wire!
This is one of the reasons why I took the wire level out and added four
wooden platforms instead.

I
painted the wooden platforms as well as the hamster house with a special
saliva-proof water-based (acrylic) paint ('Bondex' Lasur für den
Innenbereich) that might also be used to seal wooden baby-toys. Therefore
the levels and the house are very easy to clean!
Titus
got lots of things to play with:
A branch (at the bottom), a straw cube, another branch with holes in,
a hamster wheel, hay and shredded paper as well as some ladders. Of course
he's got
a finch nest and a wooden house to sleep in too!

During
the first days at our home Titus used to live in a 10 gal tank (60x30x30
cm) but I thought he didn't have enough space to do all the things hamsters
like to do and, what I thought was most important, not enough posibilities
to climb.Though
I added an exercise wheel after taking these pictures I decided to buy the
larger cage. |

This
is how the tank used to look from the top.
As
you can see there isn't really enough space for him to run around, build
a second nest or to burrow just for fun.
And
he really loves burrowing!
