The morning after I bought Shade and Summit, I was thinking about
that pet store. After all, how often does a person come upon a cage full of rats that
has that much variety? Most stores had black rats or albinos, but no variations
like I had seen. So, I managed to convince Dad to let me get another rat from the place, saying that
we should "take advantage of a good source". So, we drove back and I picked
up Streak, an Agouti blazed Berkshire. She got her name for two reasons; one,
her blaze was like a "streak" along her nose, and two, she "streaked" around the cage like no
other! She was by far the friendliest of my little group, and was trusting enough to let me
flip her on her back and rub her belly! She was also the only one of my rats
who came to her name no matter what; she frequently followed
me around my room like a little puppy even when I didn't ask her to! Streak had two tumors surgically removed and otherwise was a very healthy (though fat) rat. Unfortunately, as with so many other rats, she died from an advanced case of mycoplasmosis.
