Toodles.
Toodles - A Spur-thighed or common tortoise (Testudo graecea), Toodles was my very first pet, coming to live with us during 1971. He was bought, by my aunts, as a late birthday present. He camefrom a stall at a local market as, at that time, wild-born imported tortoises were very common unlike today. Toodles was a childhood companion, giving Sindy and Barbie rides around the garden, sitting on the swing and going for rides in my bicycle basket.
Toodles now lives with my mother. He is really pampered and only the best lettuce and dandilions are good enough for him. He has sucessfully hibernated 26 times and will hopefully continue to do so.
Update 07/09/98 Toodles has had an X-ray today, prior to his hibernation. He has not had a very good year, as it's been a very cold summer in the UK. Toodles has not seemed to eat very much but Vet Duncan says he is slightly over weight, has no vitamin deficiencies and is in good pre-hibernation health. Toodles usually goes to sleep by the end of October and awakens for the beginning of April. Please keep your fingers crossed for a sucessful hibernation this winter.
