Brought into Formula 1 thanks to the engine supplier, Mugen-Honda, Shinji Nakano competed throughout the 1997 season like an amateur among professionals. Totally out of things at the start of the season, he scored his first point in the delicate circumstances of Montreal. He managed a second in Hungary. For 1998, he is with Minardi, an Italian team generally short on results but full of good intentions at the start of the current season.
