I received this letter on 10 May 98:
Dear Bruce,
Enclosed please find a few things that may be of interest to you. Some of this is probably a bit redundant, but just to be on the safe side, I sent it to you. The large picture is a little different than yours, so I sent it along just in case you would want it. . . .
The picture of the sailor on the bridge shows the battle symbols quite clearly.
The next is a copy of my Shellback certificate, which I sent as it kind of sets the dates for you. That happened on our way to Milne Bay from the Aleutians.
Also enclosed are a couple of essays on Surigao Straits and the Los Negros operation.
The last thing is a copy of an article in the New York News.
Not certain if this will be of any use, but it will add to your fond memories of your father. Bruce, I want to thank you again for the wonderful tribute to your Dad. It has brought back many fond memories to me. Also, I am going to the reunion in Pittsburgh. But for you, none of this would have happened.
Thank you very much, and take care.
Thank you, Bob! Enjoy the reunion!
Bob Davis now lives in Stockton, California.
