Found this site from a link at another web page.Have belonged to the 187 Association since it was concieved (card #9). Served with F Co 1953 till 1955. I am Sec/treas of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the 82nd Abn Div Assn. We probably have more Rakkasans n our chapter than many of the 187 Assn. chapters. We started AIT in Oct of 72 and finished in Dec 72. I Also went to Air Assult schoo in Jun 74. Gentlemen just a note to let you know that you missed one on your Medal of Honor page. My uncle John Soroka served with you folks in Korea and made both jumps overthere. He died several years back and all the the guys from the 187th carried the casket. THANKS! One wore the Medal and his first name was Ron. I looked up his citation and he wa listed in the book I happened across. If you can research this and get him included it would be great. They even let me drink with them allowing that I was ok for a Marine:)

Earlier this year, my father fell to a stroke which left him speechless. I vaguely remember what regiment he said he was in but I do recall I believe the wing over fire. I believe he jumped in Korea for the 187th. I was hoping to find something on him. I might be able to send you a few photos next time I am over his way. He was wounded in combat and received a purple heart. I remember just a few stories, but they will stay with me forever. Dear Sir, I would like you to know you have a great website here. My husband, LTC Dennis L. Gum was with the 101st 3/187 from 1974-77. He is still very proud of this honor and I am prouder of him still. We now live in Palmer, Alaska. Denny is now in the Reseves and is also an Anchorage Police Officer. While looking through the Daily News I saw in the obits where a fellow "Rakkasan" had passed away on Feb. 4th, 1999. So I thought you would like to know so you could pass it on. There may be the chance omeone looking at your website might have known him. His name was John James Liska. He served 23 years in the U.S. Army . He also served during WWll, the Korean conflict and during the Vietnam era. He was also a charter and life member of the 187th Airbor e Regimental Combat Team known as the "Rakkasans". Mr. Liskas funeral will be at 1300 hrs. on Tuesday, the 9th of Feb., at Fort Richardson's Main Post Chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow at Ft. Richardson National Cemetary here at Ft. Ri h., Alaska. His widow is Mrs. Dorothy Liska of Eagle River, Alaska. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Chugiak Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 363, Chugiak, Ak. 99567. I left the 2/187th Airborne from Ft. Kobbe, Panama in 1987, and I was the last paratrooper to ETS with the last of the original red, white, and blue 187 flashes on my beret,for as I left an hour later the last of the airborne rakkasans or us, were disband d and made part of the 505th and all insignias were changed. This is a very nice web sight. My Uncle in Law was a member of your group, and his wife my aunt still see friends and goes to meetings. I am a video producer and am living in Korea right now, and am looking for where William Fogie was wounded, and for the man who pulled him from harms way, he looked all his life, and I thought I would keep looking for him. If I find out I am sure he will know. David
