I am seriously planning to become a Navy SEAL as soon as I have gotten my education. Also, since I am Canadian, I must wait the madatory one year before applying for citizenship. This means that I will not be able to join the Navy r ght away. This does not bother me whatsoever. I've known for year now what I wanted to do. I knew my job would be exciting and challenging. Now, after researching lots, I know that I am going to be a SEAL, no matter what it takes. I have started to boost yself into shape and am counting down the days to my graduation, which is in 2 years. I know my dream seems far-fetched, but that just gives me more motivation and determination. I am not yet worthy to say "Hoo-yah", so I will conclude by saying, "Thanks or your time!" Billy - 04/25/00 06:16:08 My Email:nsw216@aol.com | Comments: My comments are directed at "Jeff Struecker", another one of your guests.......Hey Jeff, I suggest you take some of your own advice and stop "talking out of your ass." Your insight on the M 60 machine gun as used by SEALs is inaccurate. I know this beca se I am a real 60 gunner with SEAL team 5. Common knowledge is that the 60 was designed to be a crew served weapon, whether that crew consists of 2 or 3 individuals. Further common knowledge is that a SEAL handles this weapon individually. Why do you c ntest this? All I know is that I carry my 60 and all 1000 rounds of ammunition by myself and nobody has ever "assisted me" by "applying tension" on the belted ammo. I am perfectly capable of loading, feeding and shooting (all the while avoiding jams) al by my lonesome. Perhaps this is a skill that you as part of an infantry unit are not aware of. Every member of my platoon has a specific and important job description and none of the those job descriptions include "assistant gunner." Whose going to "fe d me?" The OIC? The point man? The corpsman? The radio man? It is true that one or more of these individuals will carry an extra belt or two of 7.62, but they are way too busy shooting their own weapon and tending to their own responsibilities to be ssisting me or the other sixty gunners. I don't care who you have "worked with." When you were "working with these SEALs," did you do IADs with them and see some phantom SEAL that I am not aware of carrying around a bunch of ammo chasing the 60 gunner ar und feeding him ammo? That's right....NO, you didn't. The reality of it is that you ARE just an Army guy and you DON'T know what you are talking about. My advice: Stick to your own world of knowlede and don't pass yourself off as knowing more than you do. It is annoying, pathetic and unattractive. Email with your response if you choose. |

FN Bastian - 03/04/00 08:16:36 My Email:sac_8@yahoo.com How did you find my site?: looking around Did you enjoy it?: sure. | Comments: This site does provide some good info that other sites neglect to include. I am already enlisted and have been in the navy for about a year. I am still preparing for BUD/S as I know it will be very difficult. For those of you that are thinking about being seals make sure you are ready. I personally score damn near 300 on all of my PRT's and I still am waiting and preparing. Ninety five % of all those who try out DOR (drop on request) because it gets to them. Also when it comes to being a seal intelligence s a very important factor in being chosen as a BUD/S candidate so do really good on your ASVAB. They only waive five points if you are borderline so its best to just blow the damn thing out of the water the first time..like I did. Oh ya, dont go into NUKE or AECF if you want this opportunity, once you sign the papers they will not let you. These jobs make you to valuable and they will not risk the money they put into you by risking you taking a bullet. Well I am putting in my special request chit in in abo t six months so wish me luck and good luck to all of you. |

Edgar - 01/19/00 00:02:52 My Email:Edgar100@Juno.com How did you find my site?: Search Engine Did you enjoy it?: Yes | Comments: Dear Reader, Hi, my name is Edgar and I am 16 years old. I have a problem in my life. The reason I am writing this letter is because you might help me out. I am in 10th grade now and I am getting good grades with a 3.4 GPA. Now is a time in my life where I have to thi k of what I want to be when I grow up. That is now the problem. I am stuck between choosing my future in computers or being a U.S. Navy SEAL . Yes I know that these are two very different things. But see, you might be asking yourself that this guy is thin ing too much into the future, but if I know right now what I want to be In the future , Than I will get ready for that job and when the day comes than I will be the best at it. For example if I want to major in computers when I finish school than right no I will start learning more about computers and reading books than when the day comes I will be ready. On the other hand if I want to be a Seal than I have to start getting into shape right now, because I will not make it if I start when I finish all of m school. Now is a time in my life where I have to choose this life or that one. If I decide to be a SEAL than after high school I will go to college for two or four years and than I will go to the Navy for four years than I move on to the hard part. The N vy Seal training. If at the end I become a Navy Seal than I will almost never see my family because when a person becomes a Seal, they devote their life to becoming a Seal . It means that you will die for US. Seal life is hard, you have to wake up early e ery morning and train, train and train some more. Unless if your on a mission than you are with your team, cold in the middle of the ocean waiting for someone to pick you up. Than on the other hand if I major in Computers I will be making good money with y family in a nice house with nice cars. But see the problem with that computer life is that its not that much of a thrill. I think that you only have one life and you should live it to the fullest. Here is a nice Quote I got while surfing the web: "He wo t win the MVP or be voted to the All-Star team, than again some Heroes don't play games" -Navy SEALs- Please help me out by choosing the write path which you think I should take. Thank You very Much for taking your time and reading time. Sincerely, Edgar |

jeff struecker - 12/31/99 08:09:11 My Email:jeffstruecker@hotmail.com | Comments: I have one additional comment. When you talk about the M-60, you say that it was intended to be a crew-served weapon, but is employed individually in the teams. My previous statement about the 60 not being individually feasible still stands, but the weapo I think you may be referring to is the 5.56 mm M-249 SAW. The SAW is classified as a crew served weapon, is fully automatic, and somewhat similar to the 60. while it does not deliver the same suppressive fire as the M-60, the SAW is considerably lighter, and easier to carry. In addition, it does not require tension on the belt during fire. For this reason, the SAW is employed as an individual weapon in the Ranger Battalions. The same holds true for the teams. |
SFC Jeff Struecker - 12/30/99 08:34:17 My Email:jeffstruecker@hotmail.com How did you find my site?: okay Did you enjoy it?: sort of | Comments: I found your page very impressive looking, but your technical information, especially with regard to equipment, wrong in many cases. I'll give a few examples: 1)Your picture accompanying the description of an M-16 outfitted with a 203 is actually a pictur of an M-4 carbine outfitted with a 203. They are similar looking weapons, but far different technically. 2)You referred to the Colt .45 as a "gun." Soldiers, Marines, and Sailors get slapped for referring to pistols or rifles as "guns." It's a weapon. 3) he M-60. You said it has a tripod. It has a bipod, with your firing arm's shoulder providing the third point of support. It was also never intended to be employed by a three man crew. It requires a 2 man crew, and the SEAL temas do not employ this weapon lone. An assistant gunner is required in the case of the M-60 for several reasons. Tension must be applied on the belt to avoid jams, and carrying the all the ammo and spare barrels require the employment of an assistant gunner. Many of you will say that i am just an Army guy who doesn't know what I'm talking about because I'm not a SEAL, but i worked exstensively with SEALs when i was a member of B Co, 3d Bat, 75th Rangers, during Operation Restore Hope in Somalia. Also, the radio carried by the SEALs would more likely be the SINCGARS then the PRC. The PRC is outdated, and only used by troops in initial training these days. The only people i ever see use it are Army Cadets. Otherwise, your site is very visually impressive, but please refrain from "talking out of your butt," as it's known. Stick to what you know.
