Anti-Flag-- "New Kind of Army"(Sean) Anti-Flag is back with their sophomore full length release, "A New Kind of Army". Justin Sane has taken over sole vocal duties since Andy Flag left a couple of years back. Semi-radical politics and a strong anti war theme are subject matter for faced paced punk rock n' roll with a slight pop sensibility. Highlights include "Got the Numbers" and "Tearing Everyone Down" the lead off track. Even though it's not considered very "punk" to like Anti-Flag these days, this is a great record and I recomend it.
Blanks 77-- "C.B.H."(Sean) CBH is Blanks 77's third full-length record. It features alcohol-fueled mid-paced rock n' roll much like their first two releases. Though they do mix it up a little with "Johnnoy Cool" a full-fledged rock-a-billy tune. My favorite tracks include "Radio Hits", "We are the Punks", and 'If you were a beer". The title track "C.B.H." which stands for Cunt, Bitch, Hore (with an "H") is written in honor of Chad. I'd like to know the story behind that one... Blanks fans pick this up; to anyone else I'd recommend Killer Blanks" or "Tanked and pogoed".
Piecemeal-- "Somewhere between crusifixion and resurection lies redemption"(Derek) Yes, i know they have broken up, but this CD is so great, I had to say a little something about it. BUY IT!!! Unpredictable, straight edge hardcore! Its really a shame these guys broke up because they were one of the best metal style hardcore bands from the Boston area. Some of my personal favorite songs include: "Rain", "Proclamtion", and "With you there was eden". I know this CD came out a while ago...but if you dont have it already, get out there and get it.
Diecast-- "Undo the wicked" (Derek) Diecast's debut album "Undo the wicked" is quite addictive. Their loud and heavy, yet smooth guitar riffs and bass lines, mixed with powerful drums and fury driven vocals express what hardcore is all about. Their songs address such issues as racism, religion, and courage. They also have a CD sampler out now which features two songs from "Undo the wicked", ("Unlearn", and "Peacemaker"). It also contains "Labelled Unity" a song from their demo "Perpetual War" and two previously unreleased songs, "Disrepair" and "solace" (my personal favorite). Both of these CD's are kick ass, and you can pick BOTH of them up for just 10 bux at one of their shows.
Violent Society-- "Seperation is Killing Us"(Sean) Fucking Brilliant! Violent Society is one of the best bands around today. Call it UK82, call it hardcore punk, call it whatever the fuck you want, I love this record! "Seperation is Killing Us" is probably these Philly veterans' best work to date. Fast furious, and pissed off, Violent Society never disappoints. Sixteen tracks and not a loser in the bunch. Each song takes off where the previous song finished. The lyrical content ranges from personal struggles, to police brutality. My two favorite tracks are "Protect and Serve" and "preaching to the converted". I can't listen to this record without singing along! A few tracks can be found on some of their previous releases, but this is my favorite collection of violent society songs. I don't care if you listen to Garth Brooks or Subhumans- buy this God Damn record! Also, if you get the chance to hear Violent Society in person, take it. They're a great live band as well. WICKED PISSA! |
