Freshman and Sophomore Years - Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Curriculum
In this unique curriculum, students learn through discussion of clinical cases. Small groups of eight students and one professor discuss a clinical case(s) from signalment and history to resolution. Questions are raised, and students are expected to research these learning issues before the next meeting. Learning issues may be questions regarding anatomy, physiology, diagnostics, and treatments or may deal with side issues such as parasite infestation, ethical questions, or nutrition. Group meetings are supplemented by lectures and laboratories which must be requested by the students. This curriculum encourages the student to not only memorize important facts, but to be able to research any unknown issue effectively.
