San Martín: Hero of Argentine independence war. He was born in what was ten years before a jesuit mission. When he was 3 they moved to Buenos Aires. When he was 7 they moved to Españ. He entered in the Army. He was 13! when he participated in his first battle, it was in Africa. It is said that Napoleon Bonaparte when reviewing his battalion stared at him as if he would have seen something special in him. He made an outstanding militar career but at 34 years old he left everything in Spain and traveled to Buenos Aires to offer his services for American independence. He organized his army from scratch, first in Buenos Aires, then in Mendoza. After four years he won in Chile, some years afterwards he won in Perú, leaving the tough Spanish troops in current Bolivia isolated between Perú and Argentina. He engaged himself in the political organization of Perú, he lived one year in Lima, then he traveled to Ecuador to met Bolívar and gave him his army to finish the independence war in Bolivia. It was an intriguing decision, most historians think that was caused by the Bolí character, but from San Martíīs personal point of view it was not more dramatic that when he decided to left Spanish army ten years before. He was 44 and surely didnīt know that his public life has ended. Political situation in Argentina was chaotic, he had refused repeatedly to enter in civil war and stayed strict in this issue, he widowed and decided to travel to Europe with his 7 years old daughter. He was 46 when he started what would be his long exile. In Paris his daughter married and had two girls. He died after being exiled 26 years
