"Pawns of Life" 5/91

The game of life is very similar to the game of chess;
the king sports a crown, and his queen wears a dress.
The king is the president; the queen is the first lady;
The bishop, the candidate; is he straight or is he shady?
Be he or she a member of one party or the other;
chose them for their views, not for being one's brother;

If I had my way, a knight is what I would chose;
for he can move in any direction and still not lose.
The castle, seems regal, always seems very strong;
in our life, one being wealthy would not be wrong.
But most of us in the middle, remain just plain pawns;
play only on weekends, work all day and sleep till dawn.
Pawns move in a steady, forward and supporting role;
keeping society going, most taxes and burden we dole.
