DESCENDANTS OF THE BOUNTY MUTINEERS

EVANS - ADAMS

Back to Gallery

The original John 'Jack' 'Big Jack' Evans arrived on Pitcairn Island on December 10, 1823 with his friend John Buffett. Evans got on quietly with his life and hardly ever gets a mention by visitors to the Island. His descendants today are known for their deep respect for the old traditions and language, being able to balance this with living in the modern world; in my view quite an achievement.

John married Rachael Adams, 'Ledjel' 'Rebecca', 1797-1876, the daughter of Mutineer John Adams and his Tahitian wife Wahineatua. They had three sons and three daughters. There are two main branches: one through William Evans 1830-1873 who married Rebecca 'Pot' Christian 1830-1871 but despite four sons and seven daughters, the branch is extinct in the male line on the Island. The other branch was founded by George Francis Mason 'Tinker' Evans 1835-1910, who married Catherine 'Kitty' Christian 1839-1894, the daughter of Charles Christian and Charlotte Quintal

George Francis Mason 'Tinker' Evans 1835-1810, son of John

Evans and Rachael Adams, grandson of the reformed Mutineer John Adams. He also had three sons and three daughters.

There are two sub-branches still represented on the Island: one from George Rowland StClair Evans 1861-1940s who married a Buffett and later an Adams;

The other sub-branch is descended from Andrew 'Unoo' Evans 1865-1949 who married Charlotte Phoebe Bataille 1880-1954, daughter of Victor Albert Bataille and Eliza Seabury Adams.
