DESCENDANTS OF THE BOUNTY MUTINEERS
ADAMS
John 'Jack' Adams, 1766-1829, was the
man who turned the
tide on Pitcairn Island after the deaths of the other Mutineers and bought education and religion to the children and Tahitian women of the Island. He had three daughters and one son, George, 1804-1873. Wahineatua (Prudence) was the mother of the daughters and Teio (Mary, Sore Mummy) was the mother of George. All the Adams' are descended through him. An unidentified group of four men photographed in 1856 on Norfolk Island puzzled me for years until I found the 'missing link', namely a photograph of George colourfully seated amidst boat gear, around 1856. There was no doubt that he was the same man as in an earlier sketch made in the 1820s, and more interestingly he was the same man as the elder in the unidentified group. I conclude that the three other men are his sons John Adams, 1827-1897; Jonathan Adams, 1829-1906; and Josiah Chester Adams, 1830-1907.

This is the 'pivotal'
photograph. Visitors will have to take my
word for it that the face is that of George Adams (until I can arrange for a better copy). This photo has never been published before.
George Adams is second from the right (note the familiar
forhead) and assume that the others are John junior, Jonathan and
Josiah Chester Adams in that order (any comments welcome on that)
from John Adams' first wife Polly Young (1790s - 1843).

'Big Mum').
