West Wing- Galleria

THE WEST WING

This is where I have housed all the artists whose individual work does not make up enough to have their own wing.

Francois Boucher- Madame Bergeret 1746

Francois Boucher- Venus Consoling Love 1751

Francois Boucher- The Love Letter 1750

Jean-Honore Fragonard A Young Girl Reading c. 1776

Vermeer- The Girl with a Pearl Earring 1665

I was fortunate enough to see the Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) show at the National Gallery of Art in January of 1996 (after standing and waiting in the bitter cold for an hour! Twice!!). It was an incredible exhibit and I regret that not as many people got to see it because of the government shutting down while the show was going on. For those who did see it, they know what I am talking about. Vermeer's paintings radiate light, as if he dipped his brush in sunlight. Printed reproductions of his paintings hardly do any justice to seeing the painting in person. They fail to capture the essence of his paintings. So I definitely recommend for those who have the opportunity, to see a Vermeer painting in person.
