Eurydice

Eurydice, a Nymph, was married to Orpheus, the lyre player of Argos, but their union was not blessed. Shortly after their wedding Eurydice was walking with her sisters, the Nymphs, when they came upon the shepard Aristaeus. Aristaeus made advances toward the beautiful Eurydice, who in turn fled and was bitten by a snake hiding in the grass and died.

Her husband, Orpheus, was so struck with grief that he went to the underworld and played his lyre for Hades, convincing him to let Eurydice go, under the condition that he not look back to see if she was behind him. Orpheus agreed, but before they were out of the underworld a terrible urge to look back took over him and as he turned his head Eurydice died a second time.
