Cronos, God of the World and Time

Cronos, or Kronos, was the youngest son of Uranus and Gaea. Cronos was known as Saturn to the Romans. When Gaea complained of Uranus' cruelty Cronos took a sickle and castrated him. When Cronos threw Uranus' genitals onto the earth and into the sea they became the Furies, the Cyclops, the giants and the nymphs.

Cronos was a Titan and married his sister Rhea. Together they had Hades, Hera, Hestia, Demeter, Poseidon and Zeus. He was also the father of Cheiron by Philyra and possibly Corybantes, also by Rhea. When an Oracle tells Cronos that one of his children will depose him as supreme god, as he had done his father, Cronos devours them. However, when Zeus is born Rhea hides him in Crete and gives Cronos a stone to swallow.

Zeus grows up in Crete and marries the Oceanid Metis, who gives Cronos an emetic that makes him vomit up Zeus' brothers and sisters. The six titans then wage war on Cronos, and with the aid of the giants and Cyclops they defeat Cronos, imprisoning him in Tartarus.
