Sentences

Hymn

For all the saints who from their labours rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesu, be forever blest.

Alleluia.

Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and their might; thou, Lord, their Captain in the well-fought fight; thou, in the darkness, still their one true Light.

Alleluia.

O may thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold, fight as the saints who nobly fought of old, And win, with them, the victor's crown of gold.

Alleluia.

The golden evening brightens in the west; soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest: Sweet in the calm of Paradise the blest.

Alleluia.

But lo, there breaks a yet more glorious day; the saints triumphant rise in bright array: the King of Glory passes on his way.

Alleluia.

From earth's wide bounds, from ocean's farthest coast, Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host, Singing to the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost

Alleluia.

Address     Maurice Whitbread

Hymn

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart, be all else but naught to me, save that thou art; be thou my best thought in the day and the night, both waking and sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word, be thou ever with me, and I with thee, Lord; be thou my great Father, and I thy true son; be thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one.

Be thou my breastplate, my sword for the fight; be thou my whole armour, be thou my true might; be thou my soul's shelter, be thou my strong tower: O raise thou me heavenward, great Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise: be thou mine inheritance now and always; be thou and thou only the first in my heart;. O Sovereign of heaven, my treasure thou art.

High King of heaven, thou heaven's bright Sun, O grant me its joys after victory is won; great Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be thou my vision, 0 Ruler of all.

Reading     What is dying?      Rev Clephane Hume

A ship sails and I stand watching till she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says `she is gone'.
Gone where? Gone from my sight, that is all; she is just as large as when I saw her.
The diminished size, and total loss of sight is in me, not in her, and just at the moment when someone at my side says `she is gone', there are others who are watching her coming, and other voices take up a glad shout, `there she comes!' and that is dying.
