Car of the Month: July '97

Car: Citroen 2CV6 Special Owned by Matt Roberts

Engine and Gearbox: 1222cc flat four (from Citroen GS), Ported heads, Twin Exhausts, Sprintex S82 Screw Compressor, about 15 psi boost, Water Injection, 1 3/4 inch HIF SU Carburettor, Kestrel HPI Electronic igntion, 5 speed gearbox.

The car has been kept as much an original 2cv as possible, including the dashboard gearchange and deckchair seats. It uses the Ami Super chassis, which is very similar to the 2cv, but can take a larger engine from a GS of 1222cc. The Sprintex supercharger has been adapted to fit the engine by Matt himself, and probably almost doubles the power output to around 100 - 120 hp
The Supercharger uses a boost pressure of up to 15 psi, so requiring water injection to reduce detonation. It will reach 60 mph in about 7 seconds, and goes on to about 120 mph with the new 5 speed gearbox.

The valves and ports have been altered to improve the flow, and with the fuel injection, a new manifold may be in order which will improve the efficiency of the supercharger installtion and keep the temperature down a bit.

Matt intends to convert the car to Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection which will improve the economy as well as the power output. It should help him to control the large increases in engine temperature too! He also intends to fit a cabin adjustable ignition timing control, and a 'proper' 4 point water injection system.

Driving the Supercharged 2cv is like riding a Rottweiller. It is a great handling car with fiery acceleration, but it will bite back if mistreated!

The acceleration does tend to tail off at 90+ mph, but up until this point, you need an RS Turbo or something to catch it.
