A Fitting Tribute

A beautiful day and a wonderful ride was a fitting tribute to Larry Schneider, CD of Chapter G in Grand Rapids as fourteen of us made our way from Chapter J to the funeral home. We were sad to learn of Larry's passing on Friday, July 23, but proud to represent Chapter J as we visited with Marty and the rest of the family and friends who knew Larry so well. We left Jackson Crossing along with Mel/Mary Swetland, Louie Schippers and Derry Sims on Sunday evening. We caught up with Ron/Dianna Miller, JJ/Lee Jacobs and Mike Stiger/Lori Mays along Route 127 past Leslie a short ways and Dave/Carol Boyers on Route 57 as we traveled toward Carson City. Lyle Wollet, Chapter J CD, was able to attend the funeral on Tuesday. He said there was a fabulous turnout of bikes for the procession. Larry was certainly well-loved by all who knew him......

Important Notice

ATTENTION EVERYONE:
It has been brought to my attention when I read our District Newsletter that someone put into this newsletter that there will be a Skills Day at Troy (Honda) August 7th. THIS IS TOTALLY  WRONG. I have no idea were this information came from, but it is not true. I sent out flyers and newsletter articles in my newsletter, district newsletter, District meeting, Cabin fever. I need your help to get the word out to our members that WE ARE NOT HAVING A SKILLS DAY WEST THIS YEAR. I told everyone that we would have a Skills Day West NEXT year in Dayton.

Larry Stiles OHDE

Congratulations

As we all know the bike show at Wing Ding is for the best of the best. If you weren't there you really missed some beautiful bikes. I'm sure glad I was not a judge. Indiana Chapter "D" has something to be very proud of. Out of 3 members showing their Wings at Wing Ding, 2 placed. Larry Slater placed 3rd with his GL 1200 stock and Gary Blanton placed 3rd with his GL 1100 stock.
CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH OF YOU. Dave Lee & Gloria Cowan, ACD Indiana D

Congratulations

Congratulations go to Tom & Charlotte Weiker. They are the new C.D.s of Chapter {S} of Ohio. Tom and Charlotte became CD's of Chapter S on July 1. Their first meeting will be on Sat. July 31 in Fremont at the VFW post.

Congratulations

E-Wing News has a new addition! Please join us in welcoming Wayne Stewart, E-Wing News Rider Enrichment Coordinator. Wayne has been riding motorcycles for about 26 years. He has been riding a Gold Wing for the last 5 years and has been a GWRRA member as long as he has owned a Wing. He spent almost 3 years as a Chapter Educator. He rides year round (weather permitting) and puts about 9,000 miles a year riding back and forth to work. Being strong supporters of motorcycle safety, we felt that with Wayne's knowledge and devotion to Rider Education, he will make an excellent addition to E-Wing News.
Wayne's e-mail address is

Rider Enrichment

Why do we stop often when we are out and about on our motorcycles?  Could it be because of those uncomfortable seats that most of us have?  No, I don't think that is it.  Could it be because of the size of our fuel tanks and gas mileage?  No, I don't think that is it either. Am I a player? Maybe it is because riding makes us hungry and we need to nourish our bodies often?  No, that isn't what I am thinking about either.  How about the facts that we need to quench our thirst that has developed over the last hour or so.  Now this is more in tune to what I am thinking about.........

With the up and coming Region D Rally, we felt that these jokes would be a good way to get things rolling. Thanks James Hughes for sharing these with us!

FROG JOKES FROM MY COLLECTION:

Q: Why are frogs so happy?
A: They eat whatever bugs them!

Q: What happens when two frogs collide?
A: They get tongue tied!

Q: How does a frog feel when he has a broken leg?
A: Unhoppy.

Rider Education Topic of the Month

"A Leap Of Faith"

Do you remember the first time you stood on a diving board, ready
to make your first jump into the water below? Chances are you
weren't entirely confident of what you were about to do, but you gathered your courage, stepped forward, (closed your eyes?), and jumped out into thin air, taking that leap of faith. The first time was
nerve-wracking, but it didn't take long for it to get to be downright fun!.........

Two Wheel Tales

BEING A FRIEND

I was recently reminded of a few things we "Wingers" take for granted. A friend purchased a used Wing and had it at his home, ready for an oil change, filter, final drive oil, etc. To this point it sounds normal, don't believe it...........

For those of you who did not get a chance to try Top Gunn at the Buckeye Rally, you will have another opportunity to test your skills at the Region D Rally. Per Dave McElderry, there is a great site for the field events as well as Top Gunn. It is located about a mile from the fairgrounds. Saturday, September 4th, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., you will be able to practice before the big day, as well as learn about the scoring system. Also from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. are the On Bike Field Events. Sunday, September 5th, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. is the Top Gunn Competition. The lot is nicely paved and wide open. Attention women! Five women competed in Top Gunn at the Buckeye Rally. Hopefully there will be a lot more at Region D!

Two Wheel Tales

I finally made it back home early this morning, about 1 am, from a long trip  to Wing Ding.  Only rode about 3200 miles this trip.  Butt is glad to be  home.  Went to my 30 yr high school reunion, saw a bunch of old (well, at  least older) friends.  Saw my folks in Tulsa.  Went to Wing Ding and WOTI  breakfast every day.  Saw some more old friends and met some new ones.......

WING DING XXI – Springfield, Missouri

We are home after our busy week in Springfield. We had a lot of rain, a lot of heat and a GREAT TIME! We had a tornado warning and record high temperatures while there, but that certainly didn't keep people from coming. They had a record attendance of over 12,000. Nothing stops Goldwingers from having FUN and buying CHROME. What a fantastic group! We enjoyed seeing many of you.........

It was a combination bike show and car show. There were some nice looking cars and sharp looking motorcycles. The weather was absolutely beautiful. There were cars that showed up and motorcycles, ........
