TOYOTA CROWN's SOUND SYSTEM

There was a number of problems in installing a sound system in this vehicle. I guess they designed this vehicle so that people just had to live with the factory installed system, but I can't let that happen. The first problem was installing the headunit, almost the whole dash had to be taken out to remove the old stereo, and behind that was just enough space for my Alpine headunit. Next was speaker mounting, the kick panels had to be modified a couple of times so that the hood release which was hidden in the kick panels be accesible. The factory speakers in the door was mounted in a way that it was hanging, there was no hole in the door to mount the speakers to, brackets had to be fabricated to hang the new Boston Acoustics 4 inch speakers, the door panels was very shallow so I couldn't mount the tweeters in the position I wanted it. I was forced to mount the tweeters in the kickpanels beside the 6 inch Boston Acoustics Mid-bass. The mounting of the subwoofer was another problem, behind the back seat there is a steel wall which covers the gas tank. On the side of the gas tank a small opening about 4 inch by 4 inch was the only part where I can channel my bass into. I first intended in using sealed enclosures, but since I had to find a way to channel my bass into that small opening, I went with a ported enclosure where the ports were aligned with the opening. Below is a diagram to show how the system is hooked up, signal from the source is sent to a Phoenix Gold PLD-1 line driver to balance the signal before it is sent to a Phoenix Gold EQ215x equalizer with two way crossover, the low pass is fed to the first amplifier, a Phoenix Gold MPS-2240 (24 watts x 2), running at 2 ohm mono to the pair of 12"  Boston Acoustics Subwoofers. The highpass of the EQ215x is sent to another two way crossover, a Phoenix Gold AX204a, the lowpass ,which is now band passed, is sent to the second amplifier (all amplifiers are Phoenix Gold MPS-2240), to power a pair of 6" Boston Acoustics Mid Bass, the highpass of the AX204a is sent to the last amplifier to power a set of Boston Acoustics 4.4, 4" and 1" speaker seperates. All of the wires and interconncets are from Phoenix Gold. The system is protected by a Clifford Super Nova alarm.
