I have always admired the head lights of the new Mercedes E-Class, they have H.I.D or high intensity discharge headlamps, H.I.D. lamps produce a strong white light with a hint of purple. They don't manufacture H.I.D for my vehicle so I started to search for bulbs that produce the closest light to an H.I.D. The first I tried was a Raybrig Super White bulb, the light when it hits an object is definitely more white than my stock bulb, but when you look at my headlights they still look yellowish. So I tried to research about new bulbs and I came upon PIAA Plasma Blue 80/80 watts bulbs, they were twice more expensive than the Raybrig's, so it took me more time to decide, but in the end I got them. These bulbs were very white with a slight blue tint in terms of it's light output and the way it looks when you look at it straight on.The problem with this light was the output wasn't that powerful because of the heavy tint on the bulb, making me fall back to my fog lights almost everytime. After about 6 months, I got into a minor bumber to bumber accident that busted one of my Plasma Blues's dim light. I went to the only shop that sells this type, and they were out of stock. I didn't want to leave with a busted headlight bulb, so while I was looking around, I saw the new Super Plasma 80/80 watts bulbs. They were even more expensive than the Plasma Blue, but I was left with no choice, so I figured, this bulb is a Super Plasma it should be better than the regular Plasma Blue, so I bought a pair of it and also bought the matching PIAA Super Plasma wedge bulb for my park lights. I put them on immediately, and I couldn't wait for nightime to arrive. I tested them that night and I was a little dissapointed, the light wasn't that white and the High Beam was yellowish, but still whiter than regular bulbs. The Super Plasma's light has touch of purple, the more I used it the more I realized that this was closer to the Mercedes E-Class' H.I.D (which has a purpulish color not blue as most people thought it was), and I was falling back less to my fog lights. So here is what I think of both bulb, both will put a smile in your face. The Plasma Blue, will give your headlights a whiter appearance, but the light output is reduced by the heavy tint on the bulb so make sure you have some sort of auxiliary lighting. The Super Plasma, is not as white yet it still looks very nice, but the light output is powerful enough (since only half of the bulb is heavily tinted) to light even the darkest streets so an auxiliary light is only needed on heavy rain or fog. |
