What's left of the car I loved. But hey, It's just a car.

It was a 1985 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. Inline 4 cylinder turbo charged engine, full power leather interior. The engine is still in pretty good shape, it has a new clutch that's still in a good T-5 transmission, and has Eibach lowering springs not to mention a new front windshield. And that's the stuff we had to leave behind. Oh well, like I said, it's just a car.

And here's the story of what happened: Ok, some crazy dudes(probably drunk) in a 1996 Corvette start tailgaiting me, so I speed up and he pulls along side me in a high bank turn, and starts swerving at my car as if he wants to run me off of the road. I looked over and heard his tires slide and he smacks into the back of my car and the next thing I know I'm counter steering to straighten out because I'm headed straight for the center divide(lots of light poles and trees, plus it's like 8" high) on Paseo Padre. Then the car did a really fast flip(because I don't remember it) and the next thing I know the whole car is upside down on the wrong side of the road sliding out of control. I had to hold onto the steering wheel and lean to the side as much as I could because the roof was getting progressively closer to my head while sparks and chunks of glass flew at my face. I finally hit a street sign and spun to a stop and undid my seatbelt and crawled out. I think the roof ended up missing my shoulder by about 2". As you can see in the picture the roof is pretty flat on the drivers side and I was leaned WAY over to the passenger side. The only straight part left on the car was the trunk deck, which Dad had already put a small dent in when he closed it a while back. The only glass NOT broken on the car were the rear quarter windows(back seat windows), one of them still had my C.O.P.S. (California Organization of Police and Sheriffs) sticker on the window. I salvaged the window with the sticker for a memento, and my $1200 fiero wing, my stereo, and wheels (most of the lip ripped off and actually only one wheel was worth keeping, but they had $400 worth of tires on them). I got some other stuff and Dad pulled some engine parts. All in all the car is completely totaled and all I got out of it were a few scratches on my wrist and my shoulder. So I'm 100% ok so nobody needs to worry about me, but I thought I'd let you all know what happened. -Steve Bowen

Here's a mock-up of what the corvette looked like. If you see it in Fremont email me the license plate #. Notice the center mounted quad exhaust.
