I own a 74 omega and nova. If you want to swap ideas let me know. Or if you have any info on the omega let me know. I bought mine for $400 and in the process of converting alot of things on the whole car. And about the mags, mine has factory ones. So before you buy different ones, look into finding a set of factories. They don't look all that bad.

I had a 73 omega. It originally had a straight 6 and 3 on the tree. When i got through with it, it ran 12s (still w/the 6 and 3 speed) and could pull the wheels on launch. I ended up selling it to some buttmunch that let the motor run out of oil. Thos are cool cars. Lets see, where to begin: You can put a rearend from a 70s to 80s camaro in it (just need to push out the leaf springs a little), and pulling out the front fenderwells and relocating the battery to the trunk saves about 50-80lbs at least. I probably have some more tidbits but cant remember them right now. I also have some pics of the car (it was dark blue w/gold accents) if u r interested. TTYL stu

Heya man! Though you might like this.. So, I bought this 78 Olds Omega in Jersey about 2 years ago.. It was in fairly descent shape.. had the 250 6-cyl in it, so I knew it would last a while. Also, at the time I was driving a 1973 Caprice Classic that I was GIVEN 3 years prior. Well.. This year marked the end of the Caprice from too much body rot. To make a long story short, the carvernouse space that now dwells under the hood of the Caprice is to blame for the distinct LACK of space under the hood of my Omega. Current loadout. 1978 Olds Omega. 400 Cubic inch chevrolet small block. 2 bbl Rochester carb (keep it simple) 2 1/2 inch dual exhaust w/ flowmaster headers. New EVERYTHING. Okay, not everything.. The interior is still crap, and there's a bit of rust, but all the hardware has been replaced. Didn't want to tweak the engine out too much, as the car has only a half frame and the torque would twist the poor car in half. Well, there it is.. just thought you should know that not all the Omega's are dead. Arcain

I recently dropped in a bigblock 455 with two modified 4bbl quadrajets flowing over 1,000 cfm each, full race cam and a turbo 400 tranny with a stall converter and shift kit. I had the engine dyno tested and it ha 570hp. I also put in a 12 bolt posi with 4.11 gears. This car is very fast, I took it down to the strip and it ran a 10.390 at 127 mph. I am the proud owner of a 1974 Oldsmobile Omega. Right now it has white and black interior, benches front and back. It wears the original red paint with white roof. It only has an inline six 250 right now. But I'm looking for a 350 rocket. I've also put n w rims and tires on it, and about $800 worth of speakers, amps, and Kenwood CD player. If you are thinking of selling the 350 out of your car drop me a note or something.

I have the exact same car except mine has a dark brown paint job. I bought it for 1,500. The only thing wrong with itis the paint has water spots that are to deep to buff out. The reason I found this site was because i wanted to know how much horse power y car had. I can't believe it only has 180hp. Although its stock Its pretty quick. I've also herd good things about the 350 rocket. If you dont mind right back and give me a few tips about it.

I just bought a 1973 Omega for $400.00. 57,000 original miles. It sat under a tree for 15 years. The interior is like new. No rust on the outside and with a little rubbing compound I found out the paint is good too. All the crap that fell from the tr e over 15 years wouldn't wash off but the rubbing compound and wax is making it look new again. Everything is original except for the fluids, spark plugs, and the battery. What a deal.

I'm happy to learn of people restoring these cars. I have a 74 It had the original rocket 350 in it but the timing chain gave way andupon replacing it the firing order got mixed up. I filled it with water no anti freeze and cracked the block internally. Now it just sits. Soon to be livened up again. I think I'll take one of the blocks i Hve and make it a 383. Anyway i need some info on weather-stripping and bumpers. i loved driving the car. My original bumper in the rear rotted through and fell off. Then i put some coils over my shocks in the rear. the car handled very nimble with no bodyroll after that. It definitely could stand an antiroll bar in the rear. a stout engine will make this car run as fast as any 68 camaro.

I had an all black 74 omega 2 door hatch back when I was in high school. The car was powered by 350 rocket. The interior was black with vinyl bucket seats. It had no power steering or power brakes(drum brakes front and rear.) and had a floor shifted autom tic. I bought the car for $200 in early 1989.( the best 200 I ever spend) The car came to a sad demise when my father sold it for $25 and it was crushed by a monster truck.

I am selling my 1973 Oldsmobile Omega. I love this car more than any other car I've ever owned. We are relocating to Hawaii, and think it's time to say goodbye to the awesome, trusted old friend. Its got a 350 rocket, V8, its a four door, great mustard yellow color. It was originally owned by my girlfriends' great aunt, then her father, and then us. It's got 148,000 miles and we've put in considerable work within the last two years. I can give details of the work to anyone interested (please email me) The body is in great shape, all original. We are asking $2,500.00 obo. This is a great car, as everyone testifies -- it rocks. The car is currently in Northern New Jersey.

I have already begun to look around for a chevy 350 small block to replace the bucik motor that is in it now and i would like to venture in with nas down the road once the motor is built up. I came into posession of my 73 when a freind of mine wanted to buy a gun from me. I told him that I would trade it for his car but he said no. So I made him a bet, if he beat me in a game of pool I would give him the gun, but if I wan I would get his car ...He lost. I currently have the 250ci engine in it but I am buying a totaled 73 pontiac ventura with the olds 350 rocket in it and I am going to swap. I have owned my omega for about 2 years and in that time I have beat a few v8's off of the line to the inish in an eighth mile strip. I have never had a SINGLE problem with it, not even a flat tire (although the rears are getting a little bald) I hope that yours turns out like your dreams.

I have to ask myself what motivates one to be so excited over an otherwise very plain-jane car. I bought my 73 in June of 1973 (yes, I'm the original owner.) It was silver taupe and came with a black vinyl roof and black interior with buckets. No consol as it wasn't offered. Very few, if any, performance options were offered. (Ram air and 455's were not factory offerings) I drove it to work until 1985 when it was painted (black) and restored for show. Black is nice but be prepared to buck up for a goo paint job. You need to know that every mechanical piece in the car can be interchanged with a similar chevy Nova part. Right now my Omega spends its days drag racing. (With chevy small block.) Unless you plan a correct restoration, use the Omega sheet metal and Chevy motor/trans...and Nova suspension, springs, etc... You won't go broke buying Olds engine parts. The rear end is a corporate 10 bolt and, with the correct upgrades, will withstand a great deal of abuse. (Again, same part as in a Nova) P.S. The 350 motor in 1973 was factory rated at 190hp no bull

I just bought a 77 omega for my 15 year old son (a surprise for next June, his 16th B-Day). It has been totally restored except for the interior. It has 500 miles on the new engine, 72,000 original miles, and a 2 year old paint job. If you have any info or input as to the best thing to do for the interior, seats are real bad, let me know. Being that I am his mom and know nothing about this stuff, I will have to hire someone to do it for me. All I know about it is that he saw the car at a car show and absolutely fell in love with it. Now I just have to figure out how to keep it a secret for almost a year. Hiding it at my friends garage is the easy pa t. Keeping my mouth shut is going to be the hard part. What you own is an early X-car clone, but parts for the 1971-74 X-car clones are hard to locate. Classic Industries has a Chevy II/Nova catalog, but there are possibilities for building an X-car clone. Some things of interest: 1973/74 X-cars share the front suspension with the 1968-74 X-cars, and 1967-69 F-cars. Suspension components for the early Camaro/Firebird will bolt onto any 1968-74 X-car, including the OEM discs. The parts that are hard to locate are the front sheetmetal, bumpers, grilles, taillight lenses, cowl panel, and trim pieces. The best bet is to purchase them used or NOS. I currently own a 1975 Nova, in which parts for the later X-cars are harder to loc te, since there are no parts manufacturers. Check out the Nova website (http://nova.smu.edu), since they cater to all X-cars.
