I saw my first corvette when I was a kid and I've wanted one ever since. When the opportunity to buy this one came up I jumped on it. It's a 1977 (same year I graduated from high school) in very nice condition.
I'm the fourth owner of this car. The first owner was a woman. She kept good records of the maintenance done on the car, and kept it garaged when she wasn't driving it. The second owner never bothered to get the title transferred, or to have it registered. Apparently he only drove it with "trip permits".
The third owner had always wanted a corvette, just like me. His wife though was singularly uncooperative, and told him "no" every time he brought the subject up, until they saw this one. She decided to let him buy it. Then, she was following him home in it (this is the way I remember his story anyway) and she changed her mind. He placed a classified ad for it, and six days later I read the ad and called my wife. This was six months sooner than we had planned to buy a vette.
Betty told me to go ahead and buy it if I wanted to. I would just have to wait a while before buying a new home computer. I called the owner. He drove it over to the building I work in, and we took it for a drive, and to have a friend of mine give it a quick mechanical inspection. When everything checked out OK, we drove to the bank, and I gave him a check.
I drove the vette home that night. I can't quite remember now what arrangements I made to get my truck home, but it got there. I parked the vette in the garage, and we got ready to go on vacation. I was kind of bummed that I didn't get to drive the vette on our trip, but that's the way it goes. We went to Newport Oregon and went fishing. It's fun catching a limit of fish.
We got back from Oregon, and I drove the car twice. Both times I only went to the store and back. The next day, we packed the van again and drove to Canada for a few days of salmon fishing. That was a pretty productive trip too. When we got back, I finally got to drive the vette on a regular basis. Now it's my daily driver. I just hope it doesn't get jealous of the '79.
