Fordman's Soapbox
OK, it is about time for a new rant. Not really a rant, but my new toy. Got an 85 Bronco II off Ebay. Gave $550 for it, and was pleasantly surprised to find it had 85000 miles on it. Attempted to drive it the 100 mile trip home, and made 60 miles of it before I decided to tow it the balance of the trip. It was running hot, low power, then the dreaded shifter failure that I was warned about. Got it home, the convertor was shot, clogged muffler, vachum leaks, you name it. New exhaust, tuneup, oil change, and a few pesky repairs, and it runs very nice. Ever wonder why the 2.8 Rangers and Broncos seem to have a poor running 2.8? The motorcraft 2bbl has a notorious problem with the power valve leaking, the extra fuel makes them run a bit better, until the convertor goes into meltdown. Things really go downhill from here. Luckily I caught this one, but those of you with 2.8 engines, check that power valve especially if your cat is still intact. This one is my new toy, testbed, whatever you call it so look for a few tidbits by spring.
