SUNDAY OUTING 21ST MAY: MG DAY

In spite of having ceased production nearly twenty years ago and few cars having been imported to Kenya, it is surprising now many MGs are still around. In fact after Mercedes they are probably the most popular Club marque so a special day was arranged to celebrate it. Members met at our usual venue, the Mobil Station on Limuru Rd and out of about the dozen MGs on the Club register seven turned up. The oldest was JP's recently acquired MGA and also present was Mike Tilley's MkII Midget, Roger Steadman's '67 MGBGT and four MGB roadsters of Graham Nicholls, Alec Davis, Ollie Keeble and new member Jose Saldanha. Brian Nicol's GT was not there, but he keeps promising it will be ready 'by Christmas' and Stuart Allison was also disappointed not to attend in his Concours winning MGA as it wasn't working. The group, also with some other members in their classics including Peter Pringle in his Triumph Stag and Roger Tanner in his 20/25 Rolls Royce then drove in convoy to the appointed venue, the new Mamba Village on Langata Rd where a number of other members joined for lunch. Total attendance was about forty people and all seemed to enjoy the fellowship of other members and the excellent facilities of the venue. As is now standard practice the Club provided one free lunch for each participant with a classic car and this seems to act as an incentive for making the effort. Mention must be made of the Club's appreciation to Brian Nicol and Mike Tilley for organising the event and also all those members who dusted off their MGs and participated. A group photo was taken and will be sent to the MG Owners Club magazine - maybe the event will gain international recognition!
