Full roll cage

Having competed in dual car sprints for the last couple of years I decided I was due to go to "The Next Level". A full roll cage provides ultimate crash protection, but also stiffens the chassis to allow more accurate suspension control and ultimately higher corner speed.

I got a good deal on chrome moly for the cage and put in a full cross for side intrusion protection and font bars through to the suspension towers. The chrome moly is about 4 times the strength and because thinner metal is used is about 3/4 the weight of mild steel.

First time on the track I didn't know the car. Everything had changed and I puttered around for the first few laps, but once I got some speed up and lost traction a few times I quickly learned the limits. The car proved to be far more predictable in the corners and gripped the road powering out of the corners. Hitting a bump or ripple strip the suspension did all the work rather than any flexing in the chassis.

Here's some pics before it got painted.
