For
this competition, I designed a sandwich tire which allows the customer
to choose not only color combinations, but also tread pattern and tire
compound progression across the width of the tire. Once the desired
formula is arrived at, the finished tire is clamped together with the rim
section. This system would be ideal for rally race teams who run
into a wide variety of course conditions; this tire can adapt to the different
venues. Michelin could also use this as a "mule" tire for their research
and development. They can experiment with various combinations, and
when they find one they like, they can mold the final tire as one piece
for the public. This way, the customer can benefit from this system
without even owning it. Below is the exterior design entry, which
is a mid-engined rally racer/SUV hybrid.
