Introduced February 23, 1967, Pontiac's Firebird hit the streets running and has never stopped. That distinctive split-grille Pontiac nose, in conjunction with the Firebird's 400's attractive twin-scoop hood, made mistaking PMD's first F-body for it's little Camaro cousin impossible. Basically unchanged from 1967 on the outside, Pontiac's 1968 Firebird was updated underneath with multi-leaf springs and staggered rear shocks to help eliminate axle hop. The base V-8 was upgraded from a 326 to a 265 horse 350. In March 1968, the existing Ram Air 400 was replaced by the 340 horse Ram Air II featuring revised heads, forged crank and pistons, and a more aggressive cam. |
