SAVE YOUR EARS WHEN DRIVING OR WHY YOU SHOULD WEAR EARPLUGS WHEN LISTENING TO YOUR CAR RADIO

It is always a problem to listen to your car radio at speed,
since the faster you go the more wind and motor noise you experience.
This requires more volume on the radio to get acceptable signal to noise ratios.
Depending on the car and the speed it is easy to achieve painful and damaging
noise levels just to understand the traffic report.
In your living room with a background noise level of 50db then a radio
at 60db will give a signal to noise ratio of 10db. The radio will be clear
and comprehensible. If you want to attain a 10db signal to noise ratio in an
80db environment (a fairly quiet car) then the radio must be at 90db.
(db is a log scale of noise power) 90db is an uncomfortable noise level.
Now suppose your wear earplugs that reduce the sound level by 20db.
Your 80 db car is now at 60db. But better yet, your radio is now reduced to 70db
with the same 10db of headroom.
In conclusion, save your ears, always wear earplugs.
(and don't forget to look for the fire engine lights, your might not hear the siren)
