Bought Red 1987 16v new. Rebuilt engine, Techtonics Exhaust, Techtonics fuel enrichment module, Techtonics Cat/downpipe, Collin from Techtonics ported and polished head, European intake cam, K&N air filter, Newspeed soft sport springs, short shift kit, an front and rear upper stressbars, Autotech front and rear swaybars, Bilstein heavy duty shocks, Slotted front rotors, Ferrodo brake pads, Autotech braided brake lines and pedal covers, Borbet type S 15 inch wheels with Brigestone Potenza RE 730 size 195/5 /15 tires. As you can see I didn't drop it too low to the ground. Too hard on car to go 70 mph on bummpy backroads. Dropped it two inches before and cat was 3.5 inches off ground. Not practicle in PA. Ron

Ron Mathews 15208 Boundary Rd. New Freedom, PA. 17349. Bought 1st 77 Scrocco in 81 used. Became addicted. Bought 87 red 16v new. ran 300,000 miles before rebuilding. Bought other 87 in april 2000 with bright yellow paint, red splatter up sides, 57 speed touring speed limit sign and other well placed decals. Y llow one I made totally stock. Red one is finished. Even put a 3.94 ring and pinion for that extra kick off the line. Car puts out between 165 to 170 horses. Top speed should be 135 with the .75 fifth gear at 6,000 rpm. never tried it over 125 yet. Just f nished putting tranny and new clutch with the 16v 2.0 liter pressure plate. I'll find out in a couple more weeks. Ron

hello. I just bought a 80 rocco to replace my beloved 77 rocco with non wraparound turn signals and no sun roof from factory. i could not find another like it so settled for wrap around car. still love it though. my 77 had 88 jetta gli discs all the way a ound i decked the head almost 2 millimeters which bumped it up to right around 10-1 comp. along with this is a header, high flow cat (to pass emissions) audi 5000 turbo throttle body, a nasty cam, high rev springs with new valves and guides , a 5 speed ge rbox, and it really kicked some ass. So, i want to switch all the good stuff from my 77 over to my 80. i also have ground control full coil overs with koni 5 ways and eibach springs. This combo really makes the car stick to the road killer. Anyways i need interior for 80 cause 77 seats in rear wont work in 80. front seats work but plastic clip bushing is different and happen to be missing on 77 seats. i would like to find some good seats for car. race seats or stock. any other info or leads for high perfor ance goodies for my rocket will be much appreciated. I am also a mechanic i work at black forest porsche, inc. in georgia right at the track at road atlanta in braselton ga. the racing scene here is great and i know alot of people with sciroccos who drive and race em'. look forward to hearing from whoever will be responding to my questions. also what about 16 valve in type 1 bodies? what about vr6 in type 1 body? take care. -PAUL

The FI Rabbit has well over 400k miles on the short block and still run fine every 200k miles I remove the head and replace it with a new one sure there is blow by but just want to see how many miles it will go. As far as the diesel goes with the extra tank that in it I can travel 900 miles before refueling. The watercooled craze is the best secer I know of. frrom -60 degrees to 122 degrees it works just fine just try that with any other car on the market chances are youll get stuck some where and youll pay someone else to fix it.

I currently have a 1987 jetta wolfsburg 2door and am looking at purchasing a 1988 Scirocco and need to know what a fair offer would be. It has ac, 5spd, aftermarket sunroof, 4wheel disk, 134,000 miles, probably needs a timing belt which was last replace a ound 30,000. Other than that it seems to be in generally good shape. At the moment I'm on my third Scirocco. The first was the 1983 GL. I've owned this for about 3 years and have done a few things to it. I firstly changed the engine for a 1.6 inj. but kept the carb. Then I changed the engine again, this time for a 1.8 inj. The car has been resprayed a B.M.W blue. I also put on some 15inch wheels, which then allowed me to put on a 280mm brake conversion with kevlar brake pads. Combining this with new springs and shocks which dropped the car by 60mm, ment that it would stop o a sixpence! It became a go-kart! My second Scirocco was a MkI Storm. Sadly it did nt last too long due to it needing a complete restoration. My latest Scirocco is a 1.8 Scala in white. This is a very good looking car, once I put the wheels, brakes and suspension on it, plus a new stainl ss steel exhaust. Sadly these Sciroccos are for sale, so if anyone ine the UK wants to buy them, then plese call me. As my latest car is only a Golf (sorry!) then that's it, well almost. I am a member of a Scirocco club in the U.K, The SCIROCCO REGISTER. f anyone wants to join then plese write to Mike Simcox 80 Bracken Hill Scarborough England YO12 6HB.

I got mine for $500, at 114K miles. I've put 30K on it. Of course I have thrown lots more $$ at it to keep it happy. Rust has a hold but it is mechanically really solid. I think. I hope... I am the third owner but I knew both of the previous owners, and was riding around in this baby when it was not even a week old. I was waiting for 13 years to buy this fine machine. Now it has a roof over its head and is no longer a daily driver. Re toration awaits--SOMEDAY!!!

It's a tuned G60 engine. his top is 255 km/h and goes to 100 km/h in less then 5,5 sec. his color is bloody red, and his eyes are looking very angry. well next week i try to send an picture. and remember the only site from a scirocco is his rear, because nobody will see his front!!!!

It all started in 1988 with an '80 Scirocco. It was NOT my Dad's Oldsmobile. In 1991 my Darling was hit and run by a drunk driver. It was totaled. I was able to rescue a 1976 chassis from a Tennesee junkyard, and used alot of pieces from the '80 to build it. I have a 1990 Audi 2 liter, headers, downtubes, a racing transmission (Fron a wrecked '79 Sciocco race car. Also a zillion parrts from every j nked 'rocco I could find! I have had the good fortune to use Shine Racing Service (srsvw.com) and I have quite a sleeper under shiny metalic blue paint. I am glad to see that this fine car is still appreciated, for I thought I had the last Type 1!

Signed guestook back around last winter describing my mishaps in my '86 8v.........yes I'm the bonehead who rolled his perfectly good ( and awsomely styled) 'Rocco in a flat , dry corner.For some reason i thought VW was pronounced P*O*R*S*H*E. But that i history and fortunatly for me another 'Roc has shown up at my door step needing my personal attention.Mistakes learned in the past shall not be repeated. My only regret is that i couldn't find another mk II, for i am and always shall be a fan of the "big wing" 'Rocs.Maybe my next one could be '85 or newer. This is probably...no it IS the best car I've ever owned. The car I had before this (an 87 Renault Appliance) only had about 70,000 miles on it and it died. My Rocco has almost 220,000 miles on it and it still kicks most Hondas' asses. There are a couple of problems with it though. Whenever I go over a bump there's a weird thumping noise in the steer ng column...almost as if it's loose. Also, the shift light stays on in fifth gear. Does anybody know what can be done about these problems?

Sciraddo? yeah. previously had an 84 mars red with BBS body kit (kit for sale). was my best pet. mother nature took her from me. replaced with a yellow g60 scirocco trucked in from CA. Scirocco are definitely cool, I couldn't pass up the deal on the two GTI s though ( purchased seperatly though). The 86 I use for SCCA autocross competion, am trying to get funds together for driving school to get a full blown scca road race license... ul imately what i wish to do is road race cars. We all know the VW is great for that. The 88 jetta is our daily driver and the 87 GTI is a summmer car that is currently for sale to help finance the purchase of something newer to replace the jetta eventuall .....will definitely be a german crout-jammer for sure...I am about to pull the cylinder head on the 87 GTI ( 8v ) Any suggestions on porting ? Money is definitely a major constraint....the valves need to be done anyway and I would like to change the cam. ...so while it 's off I would like to port and polish the bad boy...have done it before to other heads...just curious if anyone had any reccomendations for the 8v head.....please e-mail me..thanks.

I forgot to tell you.... My VW is a 16v-1.8, and my favorite thing to do is embarrass Honda punks all afternoon. I have Nuespeed throttle body, Oettinger head, Euro down pipe, Momo shifter, Nuespeed suspension (full) and f. injectors, Recaros, and tons o other hi pro engine parts you don't even want to read all day. I just added JVC 3 disk changer(in dash) , pioneer component speaker set up front, pioneer plates in back, pheonix gold wire, Autotek amp, Python 3000 alarm, remote with 60 preset functions ..(fullllllllly progamable to do damn near anything from a little chirp to unlocking and swinging open ever door hood and hatch on the red beast). Is in too much for one man???? I'll let you know when I come back to reality. I am in VW heaven.........

I just picked up an 88 Scirocco-Oettinger, I LOVE THIS CAR!!!!! It is so strong and runs soooo nice. I picked it up for only 3k, with 70k original mi. It could use some custom paint and interior(which is in the works), but the hardware on this thing is phenomenal. I just put in 2k in power options and electronics, including state of the art security. I have never seen one nicer. Though, I'm sure there is. I am in Northern California, and am interested in taking my car to the limits, so if anyone has information I can use for car clubs or organizations, I would really appreciate it, thanks. Pround VW owner.... Oettinger Scirocco!!

I own an 82 rocco with more factory up grades than most people think possible. full 16er body make-over. full heated leather with every power option available less trip computer. i'm running a slightly modified 8v,lots of podercoating,lots of detailing,lots of money, thus i've yet to complete. i need some help locating gtx badges... question?....do you know if vanagon headlight assemblys are the same as the euro light kit. anyway gotta go,i'm on a friends pc. if this thing leaves you an address drop me a line thanks (Note: Vanagon headlights are not the same. The inners are supposed to be the same, but the outers and brackets will not be. Drop the $400 and order a set)

Hi! Im relatively new to the life of Obsessed Scirocco-ness but for the last 6 mos I have been completely obsessed, as a matter of fact I dont even have one in my possession yet! but that is gonna change this weekend! I finally found what I have been look ng for after hundreds of Hrs of searching. My wife thinks I've lost my mind, but I cant explain to her why I have to have a Rocc, so Im driving 660 miles round trip to Grand Rapids MI to purchase my first Rocc.I've really been amazed w/ the outgoing and f eindliness of the people I have talked to who are ENTHUSIAST'S, what a great bunch of people,and I cant believe after 6 mos of of surfing to find the right Rocc I did'nt see this site right at my back door! Since I live in INDY this is a blessing! Well Im not a super mechanic but I am technically oriented I will definately need help & guidance getting my new Rocc up to par i.e. susp.,wheels, and any other custumizations I probably dont even know about! Nice website. I envy you american scirocco owners- not having to worry about rust. My next objective is to re-spray my Scala (1.8 8v carb)before it gets too corroded. I think ferrari-red would look rocking. Europeans are also cursed with not having a 16v model available, so it looks like i'll have to drop a corrado G60 supercharged beast in. On the up-side UK sciroccos come with neat bumpers which offer unbeatable looks and the steering wheel is on the right hand side so it's easier to smoke in.(Note: Unfortunately we have to worry about rust here too. I've seen more than a few Sciroccos with plenty of rust. Thankfully my '85 is solid!)
